Plan:

This week, you will be writing a letter about yourself for your new teacher. You will need to include lots of information about who you are, your likes and dislikes and your favourite things about school! Today, you need to decide what you are going to write about in each paragraph. You are going to plan 3 paragraphs. We have used mind maps to organise our paragraphs for the last couple of weeks and so I’d like you to use that method again to plan your letter. You will need to include all of these things in your letter: -Your name and a little bit to describe you as a person -Favourite activities or hobbies -All about your family -What you want to be when you grow up -What you hope to accomplish this year in school -Things you like and things you dislike -How you learn best -The best things you’ve learned in school -What you want to know more about -Questions you have for your new teacher -Goals and dreams -What makes you feel happy/worried/interested -Learning powers that you always use and the ones you need to use more

You will need to sort these things into paragraphs and then add the information you will need to write your letter, like this (bigger copy attached).

You will need to do this for all three paragraphs (you can do more paragraphs if you think you need to.) If I were planning this letter, my next paragraph would be about school life and then the last one would be about my hopes, dreams, fears and questions etc.

Paragraph One:

Today, you are going to write your first paragraph using your plan. This is an example of how the example plan from yesterday would be turned into a paragraph:

My name is Ted and I am really looking forward to being in your class next year. I think I am quite quiet but confident and happy. I love having fun and laughing with my friends and family. My family is quite big because sometimes I live with my mum, step dad and brother Mark and sometimes I live with my dad, step mum and sister Carol. Both of my houses are in Chineham. I have a dog called Buster who lives with my dad and I love playing in the garden with him. I also enjoy spending my time writing stories, making models with my grandad and doing gymnastics. All of these activities make me feel proud of myself which is really important to me. The one thing I really don’t like doing is painting things because I always make a mess. Remember to use conjunctions to join your clauses so that you are not just writing a list of sentences about yourself. I have highlighted the conjunctions in the example to remind you.

Top tip: The reason you are only writing one paragraph a day is so that each paragraph can be your best work! This letter is going to your new teacher so really show off what fantastic writers you are and how interesting you are as people

Transition:

1. Your new Year 5 teachers would like to find out as much about you as possible! To go alongside your letters we would also like you to create an infographic about yourself – both as an individual and as a learner. An infographic is a visual representation (using graphics/pictures) to explain or share information and data. A good infographic is worth a thousand words! You can choose to do your infographic by hand or on a computer and you can be as creative as you like in the way you choose to present the key information about yourself. Please upload your infographic to Seesaw and bring along a neat final copy to your transition day. Your new teachers are going to make their own infographics about themselves which they will share with you when you meet them! There are examples below to give you some ideas about how you may like to design the layout of your infographic.

Task 2 – Key Task

Please write a written explanation for how you solved this problem and upload it to seesaw to be marked.

WED Mid-Week Maths Madness

Today, you are going to create your own bar graph showing the favourite ice cream flavours of your friends and family. All the instructions are below, along with the results from our Facebook poll!

Paragraph Two:

Today, you will need to write your second paragraph. Once you’ve written it, use this checklist to check and edit your first two paragraphs. Checklist: -capital letters and full stops -spelling -conjunctions -complex and compound sentences -1st person -that your sentences make sense -that it flows like an interesting letter rather than a list of sentences Remember this is a first draft so it is ok for it to look messy with crossing out and words added in. You will write your final draft up on Friday and decorate it for your new teacher.

RE:

Last week, you read three different creation stories. Today, you are going to represent one of those stories as a piece of artwork to show the beauty of creation. Below are some examples of how you could do it, but it’s completely up to you how you would like to present it – it’s your creation!

Paragraph Three:

Today, it is time to write your final paragraph (or paragraphs if you chose to plan for more than three.)

Once you’ve written it, use the checklist from yesterday to edit and improve it.

The next thing you need to do is get someone to review it for you. This means asking someone else to read through it and check it against the checklist. They can then point out any more improvements that can be made and can also tell you what they really like about your writing. Use this feedback to edit your work until you’re really happy with it. Hopefully by now, there are lots of edits, crossing out, spelling changes etc. so that it is the best that it can be!

French:

Now that you’ve packed your suitcase full of clothes ready for a holiday, you need to choose the destination. You need to think of ten different countries that you would like to visit on holiday one day. You can ask your parents which countries they’d like to visit too if you can’t think of ten. Then use this site (you need to scroll down a bit) to find the country - they are organised by continent and alphabetical order. Then write down its name in French. For example, I would like to go to Bulgaria, so I need to find Bulgaria and then write down the French word for it which is ‘Bulgarie.’ Then using this site, find the flag (they are in alphabetical order) and draw the flag next to the French word. Bulgarie

Repeat this with at least 10 countries – you could do more if you like This will not only help you learn the names of the countries in French, it will also help you to learn some of the flags too!

Task 2:

Play this game to practise your knowledge of 2d shapes and Carroll diagrams. Choose level 1 or 2 to start with and then challenge yourself to try level 3 and 4.

Publish your work:

Today is the day you turn your first draft letters into beautiful creations which you will be proud to give to your new teachers when you meet them! Unfortunately, you won’t know the name of your teacher when you write this so you can write ‘To my Year 5 teacher,’

You might want to write your letter up in your best handwriting with interesting illustrations and a border to make it look clear and neat or you might want to use a program on your computer to type it up and add decorations. Either way is fine, just make sure you take your time and really make it the best it can be! Your new teachers will love reading them and getting to know a little more about you!

Memories of our year!

What a strange year it has been! Regardless of how this year is ending, we have had some fantastic times in Year 4 and it’s important that we remember them! Minstead, the Christmas play, QMC, our trip to Tesco, learning to be resilient with Rosie Revere, collaging hot air balloons, dressing up as Vikings…the list goes on and on! To help us remember our year, we’d like you to create a ‘scrapbook’ style page all about Year 4 – your memories, favourite activities, funny moments, friends and teachers, successes and times you were proud of yourself.

If you’re not sure how to lay it out, below you will find a template you can use or adapt but you don’t have to use it if you have a better idea!

Then with your permission, we can upload some examples to the Facebook page so that you can see what your friends and class have enjoyed too!

Task 2 – Key Task

Please write a written explanation for how you solved this problem and upload it to seesaw to be marked. (attached bigger below)

Remember to also complete the following: Spelling Shed, Times Tables Rock Stars, Grammar Bug, Bug Club

This week’s spellings: resilience

Wednesday Midweek Madness

Today, you are going to create your own bar graph showing the favourite ice cream flavours of your friends and family.

The first thing you will need to do is make a tally chart of your results – a bit like this.

To get your results you will need to ask the people you live with and if your parents allow you to, you could ring relatives and ask neighbours. There are also the results below from the Year 4

poll of your favourite ice cream flavours that was posted on Facebook. You do not need to use all the answers on the Facebook group. You need about 7-10 different flavours and about 40-50

tallies/responses altogether.

Then using this site, you can turn your data into a bar graph.

Page 6: MATHS TASKS ENGLISH TASK PM PM TASK 2 TASK 1fourlanes-jun.hants.sch.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/YEAR-4-SUG… · MATHS TASKS ENGLISH TASK PM TASK 1 PM TASK 2 Weekly learning objective

It will then create you a bar graph

To save this – ask a parent if they can use the snipping tool or print screen control to save it as a picture or to copy it into a Word document. You could also print the page straight from the

website.

If you would rather draw your bar graph, you will need squared paper which you can find on google to download and print.
