TEACHING POINTS Finds through induction method. The parallelogram is separated using one of the diagonal and made into two congruent triangles. Using these triangles we find the area of parallelogram.

SUPPORT SYSTEM: Chart

CLASSROOM INTERACTION

What are four sided closed figures called? (QUADRILATERALS)

Then what are the quadrilaterals with opposite sides parallel and opposite angles equal called?(PARALLELOGRAM)

Children, do you all know how to find the area of triangle? (AREA=1/2bh)

Today we are going to study about how to find the area of parallelogram?

See this is a parallelogram ABCD. We are now going to divide the parallelogram with the help of diagonal.

Then what do we get? (Two triangles)

What is the specialty of these triangles?(Since these triangles have a common side and other two sides equal. They are congruent triangles)

Yes. And the area of these two triangles sum makes the area of a parallelogram. If these two triangles are congruent that means they are equal. Then we only need to find the area of one triangle and multiply by two.

Now find the area of any one triangle?(Area of on triangle ABC=1/2bh)

Then what is the area of other triangle?(Area =1/2bh)

So, what will be the area of parallelogram?(Area of parallelogram=2*area of triangles =2*1/2bh =bh)

Very good. So we can say

CHART

The area of a parallelogram is the product of one side and height from that side.

CLASSWORKFind the area of parallelogram whose side is 6cm and height from it is 4cm?(Area=bh =6*4 =24cm2)
