Why Celebrate Labor Day?Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. Labor Day weekend also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans, and is celebrated with parties, street parades and athletic events.
Labor Day, an annual celebration of workers and their achievements, originated during one of American labor history’s most dismal chapters.
In the late 1800s, at the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States, the average American worked 12-hour days and seven-day weeks in order to eke out a basic living. Despite restrictions in some states, children as young as 5 or 6 toiled in mills, factories and mines across the country, earning a fraction of their adult counterparts’ wages.

Uniform Policy-September 8 Deadline!
The PTSA has selected iUniforms as our new and exclusive school apparel provider. No other company is authorized to produce or sell uniforms for our school. The PTSA selected this company because of its exceptional history of producing quality apparel and service to its clients. Parents may now order uniform apparel and other items, including masks, online and the items will be shipped to their house rather than the school. This will make purchases and returns much easier for parents and us.
Compliance with our uniform and ID badge policies are expected from all students in grades 10-12 beginning August 31st. Our incoming ninth grade students may not have a uniform or an identification (ID) badge for our school when school begins. So, they may wear an unbranded white or navy-blue polo shirt and use their ID badge from their previous school until they are replaced. Ninth graders will have until September 8th to comply with the uniform requirement. We are working out a method to obtain pictures for our ninth graders so we can produce their IDs. More on that in the next few days.
We are looking forward to the opening of school and seeing (albeit remotely) all of our new and returning students.

September 11, 20208:46 a.m.As a community and a nation, we mourn the tragic loss of lives and injuries, and our deepest sympathies go out to the victims, their families and friends. We commend the heroic actions and courage of the rescue workers, volunteers, and government officials. And, we look to the wisdom of our national leaders who are resolved to not allow this event to change our way of life or restrict our freedoms.
We the people of the United States will stand united.
--For the innocent men, women and children who lost their lives on an airplane, at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and on the streets of New York.
--For civil servants, firefighters, police officers, and military personnel who have dedicated and lost their lives protecting our safety, our freedom and our democracy.
--For the thousands of families and friends who waited in terror and grieve their loss.
--For those who worked tirelessly in the rescue effort.
We the people of the United States of America stand united as a community and a nation celebrating democracy in the land of the free and the home of the brave."
Please join me in a moment of silence ...

Did you know?Childhood Cancer Facts — United States
❑ Each day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States, which means 15,590 children in the U.S. are diagnosed each year.
❑ Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in American children, resulting in the death of approximately 1,800 kids each year.
❑ As of 2015, there are approximately 429,000 survivors of childhood cancer in the U.S.
❑ In the United States, 84% of children diagnosed with cancer are alive at least five years after diagnosis; however this does not mean they are cured or free from long-term side effects.
❑ Even those who are cured may suffer long-term side effects as a result of the cancer treatments they received. Children who were treated for cancer are twice as likely to suffer chronic health conditions later in life versus children without a history of cancer

What Every Child Needs For Good Mental Health
It is easy for parents to identify their child’s physical needs: nutritious food, warm clothes when it’s cold, bedtime at a reasonable hour. However, a child’s mental and emotional needs may not be as obvious. Good mental health allows children to think clearly, develop socially and learn new skills. Additionally, good friends and encouraging words from adults are all important for helping children develop self confidence, high self-esteem, and a healthy emotional outlook on life.
