Second Collection this week is for Christmas
We are all called to Serve and Evangelize
The lay members of Christ’s faithful people or the laity are those who are baptized members of the Church who are not ordained through the sacrament of Holy Orders or have taken religious vows as a nun or brother. Thus, the laity makes up a vast percentage of the members of the Church and serves a very important role in her life and mission. They are called by Christ himself to continue to be his witnesses and instruments in the world. The stark reality is that no matter what the Pope, the bishops, or the parish priest does, they are not going reach the ordinary places of the world without the laity doing their job as well. That job is to be the witnesses and instruments of Christ in the workplace, schools, soccer games, grocery store, and especially in the family. We must be the leaven which gives rise to a culture that is truly a reflection of the truth and saving power of Christ! Resources are available from the parish to assist you in your faith journey and to provide you with tools to evangelize. Check the kiosk at the entrance of Holy Cross and register with FORMED online. On Formed, you will find educational and entertaining resources for all ages. https://formed.org/

AROUND THE DIOCESE
EDUCATION
While Our Lady’s call for the conversion of sinners is directed toward all of her children, her devotional requests are uniquely and specifically directed at the Catholics of the world. This is so because it is Catholics whose Church teaching supports the belief that we can merit grace for ourselves and for others, who wear scapulars and consecrate their lives to Mary, who pray the rosary, and who have at their disposal the sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion. This means that primary responsibility for the fulfillment of heaven’s desire where Fatima Devotions are concerned rests upon the shoulders of the Catholics of the world. This is a burden not to be taken lightly.

SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT
Last week we heard that, following the Ascension, the disciples, Mary, and other followers of the Lord retreated to the upper room in prayer. This week we hear that, while praying in that room, the Holy Spirit comes upon them. Jesus’ post-Resurrection promise, recounted in today’s Gospel, is fulfilled: the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon Jesus’ followers. Saint Paul tells us that all of us, in some way, are given gifts of the Holy Spirit, gifts that can be used to spread the Good News. Today is one of the Church’s greatest festivals. Let us carry the refrain of the responsorial psalm with us throughout the coming week: “Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth!” (Psalm 104:30).
