The school activities will run as follows: Activity Day Tuesday 22nd August, beginning with the Annual dress up Parade at the start of the day. Calling all tourists, pilots, cultures from around the world, superheroes, ‘fantasy’ characters or anything linked to this theme! From the Principal, Welcome back everyone. We have a very enthusiastic student group who are well settled and enjoying being back to school with their friends. As we enter the second semester the children have familiar routines and are well settled with their new learning goals and ambitions. Child Protection Curriculum All classes will be running mandated lessons about the Child Protection Curriculum this term, many starting this week. Children will revise or learn that everyone has the right to be safe and it’s important to tell a trusted adult if you feel unsafe and need help to become safe again. It is very helpful that these messages are reinforced regularly to children and that they are praised if ever disclosing a need for help. The classes talk about who might be good choices for a child’s network. If you trace your child’s hand, then help them to think of 5 adults that they see often and feel comfortable with, these can be written one per finger on the hand to remind them. Networks can be changed and reviewed at anytime if adults move away or things change. Sometimes they like to write the name of a close friend on the palm, as a friend can support you to find an adult for help or to solve simpler problems themselves. The children do name all body parts with correct terms as this vocabulary is important so that children can respect some body parts but identify them to an adult clearly if needed. A new and important addition to the curriculum is the topic of cyber bullying. This is a very real problem and even adults can be defamed or bullied. Discussing ways for a child to make themselves safe in any situation is essential. “What could someone do if….?” are great questions to find solutions and ideas for. “What if someone walked home from school and no-one was there?” “What if someone had no one to play with?” What if someone was being bullied on Facebook?” What could they do? Ask your children what makes some people scared, and what could they do to be safe again? They will come up with some great ideas to problem solve. If you have any questions please talk to your classroom teacher. (Are you on a child’s help network? What do you do if a child tells you something important? Please note the Report Line for any serious disclosures is 131478. They have kind, qualified people to help.)

The school activities will run as follows: Activity Day Tuesday 22nd August, beginning with the Annual dress up Parade at the start of the day. A big welcome back to everyone, it’s great to see all your smiling faces and listen to all the stories from your exciting holidays. A few housekeeping reminders: Blue folders are to be brought back to school on a daily basis so students can change their readers and put

any important notes in it for you to look at. On Mondays, Andi and Steph are in the classroom and on Tuesday mornings, Andi is in. Library day is Thursdays. This term our Early Years Topic is Transport. Students are allowed to bring 2 small transport related items along daily to use in our discovery sessions. Students can bring toys in general to school as long as they are not too big, not their special toy in case it

gets broken and only 1 if unrelated to the topic. To finish off on the Dinosaur topic last term, students had to write a book about their chosen dinosaur in our bookmaking lesson. They had to include a title, author and a story line. They were then taped reading the story to myself. They worked really hard on their stories and most managed to match an accompanying picture to their text. These pictures show them reading their final draft of the book. Well done JP, great stories :)

Middle Primary

Welcome back to Term 3! Last term was very busy with lots of exciting learning and

discovering. This term we are excited to continue learning through group and

independent learning activities and using goal setting to further ourselves as powerful

learners. In Week 10 of Term 2, we

were lucky enough to have Jayden

Prelc come and teach a lesson in

dance with Middle Primary! We had a

great time being active and creative

and learning from an experienced

dancer. Here are some pictures of

our fantastic choreography:

Upper Primary Welcome back to a busy Term 3. The class has quickly settled in and are setting new goals after discussions around their reports. Throughout the term we are beginning to develop our portfolios. This term we will be re-testing students to evaluate their growth so far this year and completing PAT testing towards the end of the term. I will be using this data to develop my program to meet students needs and goals. Over the next 2 weeks we will be completing our unit on Data and Statistics, which has seen us collect information in different ways and now looking at how we can display our data. Once we have collected and displayed our data we will then look at the information gathered and work on making statements based on that data. We are working on setting up a Master Chef day in Literacy to support our unit on procedure writing. Our focus has been on the text structure, verbs used and on writing clear instructions.

News from around the classes…..

Preschool Term 3 has already started with lots of learning. Along with Reception/1 we are learning about machines and transport. We are making models of transport from recycled objects and getting lots of ideas from new library books. Outdoors we are setting up lots of exploratory learning around speed and gravity using ramps on different inclines. Indoors our interest centres are focusing on STEM so there are lots of experiments and problem solving happening. Our story table is The Three Billy Goats Gruff and already we have made mini movies acting out the story. We are looking forward to a really exciting term!
