Dear Parishioners, In two readings today, people are cured of their leprosy – Naaman by the prophet Elisha and 10 people, including a Samaritan, by Jesus. In these healings, the people are restored to physical and communal life – renewed in health and re-established in a society that had kept them separate for fear of contagion. In each reading, there is a response to this healing. Naaman expresses gratitude to Elisha and asks for two mule-loads of earth so that he can offer his sacrifices to the God of Eli-sha rather than his own god. The Samari-tan, the only one of the 10 who appears to realize that he has been cured, returns to
Jesus and glorifies God. In both cases, faith had saved them and had prompted the proper response. Jesus, the eternal Word of God, is still healing us today. If we turn to Jesus in trust, he can cleanse us of the most basic of all human ail-ments – sin. Jesus, the Word of God, is unchained, as Saint Paul writes to Timothy. He remains faithful to those who are faithful. And we, who have died to sin with him in baptism, shall also live with him. This gift of life, of restoring us to communion with God, is one available to use in faith. When accepted in faith, the only proper response is worship. The more we respond in faith and in worship, the greater the graces, and the easier and more joyful is our relationship with the Triune God – who desires nothing more than for us to spend eternity with him. May those graces continue to transform us and bring us ever closer to Him.

Queridos feligreses, En dos de las lecturas de hoy, la gen-te es curada de su lepra: Naamán por el profeta Eliseo y 10 personas, inclu-yendo un samaritano, por Jesús. En estas curaciones, las personas recuperan la vida física y de comu-nidad, renovadas en salud y resta-blecidas en una sociedad que las
mantuvo separadas por miedo al contagio. En cada lectura, hay una respuesta a esta curación. Naamán expresa su gratitud a Eliseo y le pide sacos llenos de tierra del lugar tantos como puedan cargar dos mulas para poder ofrecerle sus sacrificios al Dios de Eliseo en lugar de a su propio dios. El sa-maritano, el único de los 10 que parece darse cuenta de que ha sido curado, regresa a Jesús y glorifica a Dios. En ambos casos, la fe los había salvado y ha-bía producido la respuesta adecuada. Jesús, la eterna Palabra de Dios, nos sigue está cu-rando hoy. Si nos volvemos a Jesús con confianza, él puede limpiarnos de la dolencia humanas más bási-ca: el pecado. Jesús, la Palabra de Dios, no está enca-denada, como San Pablo le escribe a Timoteo. Él per-manece fiel a los que son fieles. Y nosotros, que con él hemos muerto al pecado en el bautismo, también debe-mos vivir con él. Este don de vida, de restaurarnos a la comunión con Dios, está disponible para usarla con fe. Cuando se acepta con fe, la única respuesta adecuada es la adoración. Cuanto más respondemos en fe y en adoración, ma-yores son las gracias, y más fácil y más alegre es nuestra relación con el Dios Trino, que no desea nada más para nosotros que pasar la eternidad con él. Que esas gracias continúen transformándonos y acercándo-nos cada vez más a Él.

Students Arrival and Dismissal Please do not bring students earlier than 10 minutes before the session begins, since supervision cannot be provided prior to that time. They need to be signed-in in and out at their classroom At the end of each session, students need to wait in their classroom until “signed-out”. Registration Even though our classes had started we still accepting regis-tration for our Sunday program for children in 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, in public school. Don’t let your child miss out on this opportunity to grow in faith, have fun, make friends, and develop a sense of community. Registration forms are available in the parish office. Please come prepared to give a copy of the Baptism certificate. Do you know that... The Church established the month of October to honor Our Lady of the Rosary because of a great victory over Turks that took place in October 1571, in Lepanto. Pope Pius V credited the victory to the intercession of the Virgin Mary through the rosary. The news of the victory reached him on October 7th., so the day was dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Christian liturgy has always contained an opportunity to make a choice for sharing. From the beginning, Christians pooled their resources, especially for the care of widows and orphans, at the weekly Eucharist. Over the years, the collection became detached from the liturgy and baskets or plates would be passed through the community while the Mass was going on at the altar, or contributions would be collected at the doors. In Milan’s Ambrosian Rite, these gifts have always been brought to the altar by lay people in pro-cession. In German countries, the ancient custom was for the entire assembly to process with their gifts—first the men, then the women, then the priests and deacons—to offer their gifts at the altar. The old ceremony of canoniza-tion included a curious vestige of this procession: people would present the pope with two loaves of bread, two bar-rels of wine and water, five candles, and three cages con-taining pigeons or turtledoves!—James Field, Copyright © J. LUKE THE EVANGELIST
Luke was an Evangelist, the writer of the third Gospel. He never met Christ in person, but in his Gospel he says that he came to know about Jesus by talking to eyewitnesses to the events of Jesus’ life, death, and Resurrection. Hearing those stories helped Luke to become a believer, and he wrote his Gospel so
that others would come to know and love Jesus. Luke was a doctor and he traveled with Saint Paul on his sec-ond missionary journey. In fact, Paul calls Luke his “beloved physician” (Colossians 4:14). Because he cared for the bodily needs of others, Luke is the patron saint of doctors. He is also the patron saint of artists because it is believed that he painted a famous portrait of Mary, our Blessed Mother. In his Gospel, Luke helps us to know how concerned Jesus was for the sick, the poor, and anyone in need of help, mercy, and forgiveness.

Tradiciones de Nuestra Fe Muy popular entre los latinos es la monjita francesa santa Teresita, con sus rosas y crucifijo en mano. No cabe duda que ella fue una gran mujer, pero no podemos olvidar otra monja carmelita, la Teresota, o sea santa Teresa de Jesús (de Ávila). En 1970, esta hispana fue la primera mujer nombrada Doctora de la Iglesia gracias a sus profundos escritos. Te-resa vivió en el siglo XVI, una época de mucha reforma. Después de haber pasado varios años como religiosa, se dio cuenta que su vida personal necesitaba conversión. Así fue que se puso a orar y practicar el recogimiento del alma. Ella confiesa que pasarían casi 15 años antes de que estas prácticas dieran fruto. Ella no se dejó vencer durante esos quince años y siguió insistiendo en la oración hasta que Dios le concedió visiones y visitas celestiales. Su mística llena de gozos celestiales nunca la separó de la tierra. Ella no se escondía en la oración, mas bien salía de la oración para luchar en el mundo. Vengan a rezar el Rosario durante este mes Octubre está dedicado al Santo Rosario y lo es-tamos rezando todos los todos los días, de lunes a domingo, a las 6:30pm, en la capilla de la rec-toría. Todos están invitados y si tienen niños de 5 años en adelante, los pueden traer para que crezcan viviendo la fe. Tenemos Rosarios y folle-
tos de como rezarlo. Jornada Mundial de las Misiones. El próximo domingo se celebra la Jornada Mundial de las Misiones. Y el Papa Francisco en su mensaje titulado “Bautizados y enviados: la Iglesia de Cristo en misión en el mundo”, nos pide a toda la Iglesia a que vivamos, durante el mes de octubre de este año, un tiempo misionero extra-ordinario, para conmemorar el centenario de la promulga-ción de la Carta apostólica Maximum illud del Papa Bene-dicto XV (30 noviembre 1919).
Nos exhorta a vivir en misión y cumplir el mandato de Cris-to de llevar el Evangelio a todos los pueblos, en su mensa-je nos dice: “la Iglesia está en misión en el mundo: la fe en Jesucristo nos da la dimensión justa de todas las cosas haciéndonos ver el mundo con los ojos y el corazón de Dios”. Difundir el Evangelio “es un mandato que nos toca de cerca: yo soy siempre una misión; tú eres siempre una misión; todo bautizado y bautizada es una misión” (9 de junio,2019) Sobres para Intenciones de la Misa en el Mes Noviem-bre “Mes de los Difuntos” Como es ya tradición en nuestra parroquia, los sobres pa-ra recordar “Las Almas de los Difuntos” durante todas las misas de noviembre, ya están disponibles en las entradas de la iglesia. Por favor anote claramente el nombre de sus seres queridos en los sobres, ponga su donación adentro, y deposítelo en la canasta de la colecta, en la caja que esta junto al ambón o llévelo a la oficina. También tendremos el “Altar del Recuerdo” a partir del 1 de noviembre, y se les invita a poner ahí fotos de sus di-funtos. Por favor anote su nombre y número de teléfono atrás de cada fotografía. Para dar espacio para más foto-grafías, por favor el tamaño máximo de las fotografías es de 5 por 7 pulgadas.

Festa de Nossa Senhora de Fátima Reflexão por: João Pereira Arruda
Neste Domingo reflictamos nos que significa a cura e o sentir-se agradecido. Vemos na Primeira Leitura em como Naamã reage ás ordens do profeta Eliseu de se lavar sete vezes para ser curado da doença da lepra. Vendo-se curado a sua reação foi de agradecimento e de conversão a Deus. No mundo que vivemos alimentamos uma atitude de constantemente pedir e mais pedir a Deus; consequentemente esquecemos ou resta-nos pouco tempo de cultivarmos uma alma agradecida a Deus pelos dons e bens que nos dá de graça todos os dias. Tal como Naamã temos que deixar os falsos deuses das vanglórias, das honras e dos pretígios em que nos banhamos nas águas das vaidades e das meias verdades para nos deixarmos evadir por sentimentos de gratidão, de humildade, de serviço e doação ao bem comum e a oração nos aproxima de Deus e da verdadeira vida dedicada ao Seu Amor. O simbolismo do número dez, significa totalidade. Os dez leprosos significam a totalidade dos povos que Deus disponaliza-Se a curar. Não há aceção de raça, cor, sexo, ou condição social; Deus cura todos que se abrem á cura. Celebramos também hoje a Senhora do Rosário de Fátima. A Irmandade de Nossa Senhora de Fátima de Santa Clara faz questão de celebrar a sua padroeira com programa festivo e convidativo a celebrar-mos a nossa Mãe e Mãe de Deus! Inserida na liturgia deste Domingo e em comunidade celebramos a Virgem que humildemente aceitou ser a Mãe de Jesus Cristo Nosso Salvador. O Cântico do Magnificat espelha essa mesma humildade e espírito de alma agradecida e simplicidade com que a Vigem eleva a Deus; “A minha alma glorifica o Senhor e o meu espírito se eleva a Deus meu Salvador porque olhou para a humildade da sua serva.” Foi assim nesse espírito de humildade e agradecimento que Maria Mãe de Deus e dos homens aceitou ser instrumento de Deus no processo de salvação da Humanidade! Celebremos pois o nosso Deus e a Maria nossa Mãe pelo qual nos indica o modelo perfeito de fazermos a nossa caminhada neste mundo em direção a Deus.
Notícias Jantar de Cozido á Portuguesa: O CPP está a planear um convívio de um jantar de cozido á Portuguesa. Este terá lugar no salão paroquial no Sábado dia 16 do mês de Novembro. Sendo esta promoção um meio de angariar fundos para os custos das actividades portuguesas nesta paróquia e para a administração dos custos da paróquia. Spanish Prep Class: 1st Monday at 7:00 pm;
Baptism: 3rd Saturday at 10:00 am English Prep Class: 2nd Monday at 7:00 pm;
Baptism: 4th Saturday at 10:00 am

Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and a commitment in all its dimensions brings you advantages,
recognition, and responsibilities of many kinds. Being a registered parishioner makes things much easier when it is time for infant Baptism, weddings, when
asked to be a Baptismal or Confirmation Sponsor and even funerals. We are often asked to provide affidavits for Baptismal and Confirmation Spon-
sors. We can only do this if a person is a registered, active and contribution member.
So, are you a registered parishioner? If not please consider registering. Registration forms are available in the Parish
Office and in the Church vestibule.
We thank Josephine F. Alioto for the last 14 years of service to our St. Clare Parish. Josephine has been helping with counting the Collection money all these years. Now, being 98 years old, she decided to move to a retirement home in Sunnyvale. We THANK YOU, Josephine and wish you God’s abundant blessing in your new place of living. You have been amazing! St. Clare Parish will always remember you.
