ENTRANCE SONG “Come as You Are” (Deidre Brown) WELCOME & GREETING OPENING PRAYER: God of love and mercy, look kindly on your servant, our dear friend Des, who has departed from us, and is now at rest with you. As he served you faithfully throughout his life, may you give him the fullness of your peace. We give thanks for his life and loving presence in our lives, as he is now caught up in your eternal love. We remember him fondly and make our prayer in the name of Jesus who is our risen Lord now and for ever. All: Amen. SYMBOLS & MEMORIES OF DES EULOGY Peter Duffy

FIRST READING Read by Rochelle A reading from the Book of Ecclesiastes (44.10-15) Here is a generous man whose good works have not been forgotten. In his descendants there remains a rich inheritance born of him. His descendants stand by his covenants, and thanks to him so do his children’s children. His offspring will last forever; his glory will not fade. His body will be buried in peace and his name will live on for all generations. The people will proclaim his wisdom; the assembly will celebrate his praises. The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. RESPONSE HYMN “How Great Thou Art”

SECOND READING Read by James Reflection: “Success” He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has enjoyed the trust of strong women, the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who has never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it; who has always looked for the best in others and given them the best he had; whose life was an inspiration; whose memory is a blessing. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION All: Alleluia, alleluia.

Happy are those who have died in the Lord; let them rest from their labours for their good deeds go with them. Alleluia.

GOSPEL A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John (14:1-6,18-19,27) There are many rooms in my Father’s house. Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way”. Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.” “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” The Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

HOMILY PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL: Priest: Heavenly Father as we come together to celebrate the life of Des, we humbly place our prayers before you in a spirit of confidence and hope. Peter: Lord thank you for letting us share so many special times with Dad. He was always caring for us, interested in what we were doing and ready to guide and help us. While we are sad today we will always celebrate his life.

Lord hear us. All: Lord hear our prayer. Michelle: Lord, we thank you for the good times and many laughs and pranks along the way we shared with Dad. Lord hear us. All: Lord hear our prayer.

Rochelle: We thank you for Des’s life, for his unconditional love, for always being there for everyone and for his strength and courage in times of suffering. May we in our lives wherever we go and whatever we do be like him. Lord hear us. All: Lord hear our prayer. Paul: We pray for Marie, Des’s loving wife of nearly 65 years, his children Michelle and Peter, daughter-in-law Vicky, granddaughter Rochelle and her husband James, and his great grandchildren Jeremy, Oliver, Ella and Dan, that they will be sustained by their many happy memories of him. Lord hear us. All: Lord hear our prayer. Michelle: We pray for Des to give us strength to overcome our sadness knowing he is happy with you in heaven. Lord hear us. All: Lord hear our prayer.

Peter: We pray for the doctors and staff at Waverley Valley Aged Care who cared for dad during his illness over the last few years. They enjoyed his humour and his easy going nature. May they be blessed for their kindness and compassion. Lord hear us. All: Lord, hear our prayer. Peter: We give thanks for the lives of our deceased family members and friends and may be reunited with them all in the joys of heaven. Lord hear us. All: Lord hear our prayer Priest: Lord, may you support us all the day long, till the shadows lengthen, and evening falls, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done; then in your mercy, Lord, grant us a safe lodging, a holy rest, and peace at last. We ask this through Christ our lord. All: Amen.
