Fr Michael Elligate

INTRODUCTORY RITES ENTRANCE HYMN Here I Am Lord I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry. All who dwell in dark and sin, my hand will save. I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send? Refrain: Here I am Lord, is it I Lord?

I have heard you calling in the night. I will go Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain. I have wept for love of them, they turn away. I will break their hearts of stone; give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send? Refrain I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame. I will set a feast for them. My hand will save. Finest bread I will provide, ’til their hearts be satisfied. I will give my life to them, whom shall I send? Refrain GREETING

Fr Michael: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen. Fr. Michael: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of

God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

All: And with your spirit. SPRINKLING WITH HOLY WATER Fr. Michael: In the waters of baptism, Bruce died with Christ

and rose with Him to new life. May he now share with Him in eternal glory. Amen.

LIGHTING OF THE PASCHAL CANDLE Chris Johnston (on behalf of Bob and Helen Johnston) Fr. Michael: In baptism Bruce received the light of Christ. That

light has guided him throughout his life. May he now enjoy the risen life with his risen Lord. Amen.

Fr. Michael: May almighty God have mercy on all of us, forgive

us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. PLACING OF THE PALL AND SYMBOLS (Family photo, wedding ring, photo of Tuscany, postcard from his sister Margaret in Sydney, spreadsheet, bottle of Macallan Scotch Whisky)

WORDS OF REMEMBRANCE Nicholas Turner Jeremy Turner Margaret Duffy (To be read by Liz Sleeman-Turner) Kathleen Georgiou OPENING PRAYER Fr. Michael: God of endless mercy, look kindly on your servant

Bruce, who has set down the burden of his years. As he served you faithfully throughout his life, may you give him the fullness of your peace and joy. We give thanks for the life of John, now caught up in your eternal love. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen. LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING Read by John Vanderstock A reading from the 2nd Letter of St Paul to Timothy (4: 6-8) The time is here for me to leave this life. I have done my best in the race. I have run the full distance and I have kept the faith. And now there is, waiting for me, the prize of victory awarded for a righteous life, the prize which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day – and not only to me, but to all those who wait with love for him to appear.

This is the Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. RESPONSORIAL PSALM Read by Simon Berger Response: The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall

want. The Lord is my shepherd; There is nothing I shall want. Fresh and green are the pastures Where he gives me repose. Near restful waters he leads me, To revive my drooping spirit. Response He guides me along the right path; He is true to his name. If I should walk in the valley of darkness No evil would I fear. You are there with your crook and your staff; With these you give me comfort. Response You have prepared a banquet for me In the sight of my foes. My head you have anointed with oil; My cup is overflowing. Response Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me All the days of my life. In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell For ever and ever. Response

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION All: Alleluia, alleluia. Blessed are you, Father, Lord of

heaven and earth; You have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom. Alleluia.

GOSPEL (John 14: 1-6) Fr. Michael: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John

14:1-6. All: Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus said to His disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled; trust in God still, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house; if there were not, I should have told you. I am going now to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me; so that where I am, you may be too. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said: “Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus said: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” The Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. HOMILY
