Our Sunday Best Dear Family,

The question arises every summer how we should dress for

Mass. Instead of first approaching that question from a moral or

fashion standpoint, I want to approach it a little differently.

All of us are called to participate in Mass each Sunday and

Holy Day of Obligation. Like I have in my life, many people can

view going to Mass as simply an obligation that the Ten

Commandments require. It is true that Sunday Mass is an obligation

under pain of mortal sin if we can go but choose not to for a non-

serious reason. After all, what is more important that going to Mass

and worshipping God?

Mass is not so much an obligation but rather it is a

relationship. Mass is what those who die in the peace of Christ will

experience for all eternity. Mass is a marital experience of bride (the

Church, that’s us) and the Bridegroom (God). In other words, Mass

is a total self-giving of God to us in the Word and the Eucharist and

a reciprocating gift of ourselves to God. In this relationship He has

given us His everything. In this relationship we give Him our

everything…we hold nothing back! And in giving Him our

everything, we give Him our very best…our preparation, our

participation, and our adoration.

The Mass, in short, is and should be experienced as an event

that is altogether different from anything that is earthly. It is

something that is infinitely above and beyond anything that earth has

to offer. The Mass is heaven on earth. When we go to Mass, we

literally go to heaven!!!

The Mass is not about getting so much as it is about giving.

Therefore, does it not make sense that we should give Him our very

best in everything…our preparation, our participation, our adoration

and, yes, how we dress for Mass. Ought we not dress in our very

best so as show our Lord and our God the proper and due respect

that is His? Should we not dress in a way that draws attention to the

whole person God made us and not to our various parts?

These are some principals to consider when you and I dress

for Mass. Where are we going…to a casual event or to heaven?

What are we doing there…fulfilling an obligation or giving of

ourselves in a relationship? Next Sunday, let’s consider these things

and give to God what is God’s, our respectful very best in every

aspect of our lives.

God bless and Mary keep you,

Fr. Michaud

The 2nd collection today is for the MILK PROJECT to provide milk for the Casa Hogan Orphanage in Lurin, Peru. This

milk project started 34 years ago to help feed Peru orphans and is

able to continue because of Wisconsin milk. Your donation helps

buy and ship the 50 lb. of bags of milk which cost $85.00. Each

week one sack of milk provides milk for 64 orphans. That is not

a lot of milk per child. By giving your support you are not only

supporting the orphanage but also promoting the use of Wisconsin

milk. The diocese’s goal for its’ next shipment is 400 bags.

LET’S SEE HOW MANY BAGS OF MILK WE CAN FILL.
