Oberursel (Germany). What cooling control features does a measurement unit need to ensure

efficient operation of a power transformer optimized for running time? What is required of cooling

control units now and what will be needed in the future? The development engineers at Messko

GmbH deal with these questions on a daily basis. The answers lie in the new digital temperature

management system MESSKO® MTeC® EPT303 from MESSKO INSTRUMENTS, Maschinenfabrik

Reinhausen's subsidiary and center of competence for sensors. This modularly expandable, digital

measurement unit impresses with intelligent solutions in the areas of safety, functionality and user-

friendliness.

The MESSKO® MTeC® EPT303 is an intelligent cooling control, networked with a measurement,

analysis, and communications unit. The device controls the cooling systems of power transformers

by measuring the top oil temperature and precisely determining the winding temperature.

Fit for the futureDeveloped from many years of experience, based on a completely new hardware and software

platform and equipped as standard with forward-looking features, the MESSKO® MTeC® EPT303

marks the switch from insulated cooling control to networked Industry 4.0 application. The

MESSKO® MTeC® EPT303 provides up to 8 analog inputs and 6 outputs. A wide range of sensors

and actuators are supported; this includes Pt100 in 2 and 4-conductor types and all standard types

of thermal elements. The integration of all common communications standards makes the technol-

ogy future-proof. Whether DNP3 (Distributed Network Protocol), IEC 60870, IEC 61850 or Modbus:

The MESSKO® MTeC® EPT303 is familiar with them all – and that is standard.

The life of the transformer is limited by the aging of its windingsThe MESSKO® MTeC® EPT303 can calculate the estimated remaining service life of the trans-

former in line with IEC and ANSI standards from the measurement parameters recorded. The result

shows how much the transformer – and in particular the insulation system of the windings – has

aged as a result of operation. Using the same forward-looking approach, the temperature manage-

ment feature of the MESSKO® MTeC® EPT303 can control the fans and therefore prevent excess

temperatures from occurring in the windings in the first place.

Intuitive operation – with the help of the MESSKO® MControl® touch displayThe user interface permits intuitive operability and can be configured to meet individual needs.

Alarm levels, triggers and warning notices can be configured as needed. Depending on application

scenario, users can also use the optional 7" MESSKO® MControl® touch display to access mea-

surements, settings, and analyses directly on site without any further devices. Up to seven freely

configurable cooling stages can be activated via relay contacts with the MESSKO® MTeC®

EPT303. The activation can be periodical or based on the load. A cyclical cooling group change is

also possible.

Making the old newThe MESSKO® MTeC® EPT303 is ideal for upgrading and as a retrofit solution. It is available as a

standalone product or integrated into a customized control cabinet solution from MESSKO.
