Your opportunity to help shape the local health services
you and your family receive
The Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust runs the North Devon District Hospital and all the community services in this area including the community hospital and integrated community health and social care teams (district nursing, physio and occupational therapists). We are applying to become an NHS Foundation Trust (FT). As part of this application, we are asking local residents to ‘join’ the Trust as a member to ensure that people have the opportunity for a greater say in how our services are run. We already have 5000 members but need more in this area to ensure every region and age-group is equally represented. Joining is free and you can be involved as much or as little as you want. Members are at the heart of an NHS Foundation Trust and consist of local people, patients, carers and staff. We aim to create a membership which empowers and involves local people in developing our services. The main benefit of being a member is that you can make your voice heard and in doing so you can help us improve our standards of patient care and patient safety. Even though we are not yet through the FT application process, we are already working with our members to improve services. The following are just a few examples of projects underway: Members are helping us choose a new IT solution for an Electronic Patient Health Record Members have also volunteered to be trained in how to inspect their local hospital – as part of the national PLACE scheme Members are also helping us interview patients on our wards to assess the level of service received and their experience. These results are fed back to the ward within two hours. It only takes a few minutes to sign up to become a member:

9 May is AGM/Public Meeting/Council Meeting
Report of the Marwood Parish Council Meeting Tuesday 26 March 2013
Present: Cllrs. Mrs S Darling, M Darling, G Tamlyn, R May, C Latham, J Glanville Apologies: Cllrs. C Spear, C Wallis, T Bigge In Attendance: Cllr Mrs A Davis, Cllr F Tucker. M J Measures (Clerk to the Council) Minutes: The Minutes of the meeting 7 February were agreed and signed as a true record. County and District Councillors Reports: Cllr Tucker said the next meeting of the Rural Alliance will be to discuss the Local Plan and there is a new dead-line for comments on Part 3 of the Plan. Cllr Mrs Davis reported on the Council Tax freeze and spending boost. Almost £9 million extra will be spent on Devon County Council services and a further £1.2 million will be spent on pot-hole repairs and winter maintenance. The Council is expecting to receive a total of about £2.5million towards the cost of temporary repair and clean-up following last year's floods. Planning Applications: 55364 - siting of one non-illuminated free-standing sign at the junction of the road leading to Chapel Farm. Recommend: Refusal 55370 - Erection of concrete underground slurry store at Honeywell Farm, Muddiford. Recommend : Approval Reports from Councillors: Finance: Balance at 26 March is £9024.84 (this includes over £2600 of P3 Scheme money which has not yet been able to be used due to the wet weather). Parish Footpaths: Cllr Wallis had reported the cost of outstanding work. Rural Alliance: Next Meeting is about the Local Plan Community Hall: Cllr May said the Fullabrook Wind Farm CIC approved a grant of £200,000 towards the cost of the new hall, subject to the Marwood Community Hall Charity funds being made available. Cllr Tucker said that the Trustees and Committee should meet to find a way forward. Cllr Mrs Darling commented as a Trustee and emphasised the responsibilities and duties of the Trustees to ensure that the Charity funds are only used for the provision of a new hall for the inhabitants of Marwood Parish. Cllr Tamlyn asked Cllr May if a true business plan has been produced to include hire-charges, running costs, shared equipment, etc. Cllr May said this has not yet been done. There followed a robust and meaningful discussion and exchange of views and opinions. It was commented, that it seems the entire project hinges on whether approval can be obtained to use the access road to the school. Cllr Mrs Davis said that Devon County Council has spent a great deal of time and money investigating this matter, without success and they can go no further. Cllr May said, a member of the Management Committee, who is a solicitor, is also investigating this matter. Cllr May was asked by the Council to obtain the latest information concerning the access road and to pass it to the Trustees and Parish Council. Chairman's Discretion: A special meeting should be arranged to discuss part 3 of the Local Plan. Meeting closed at 20.27 M J Measures
