Marwood Community Hall
The AGM for the Community Hall will be on Thursday 13th July at 7:30pm. Please do come along with your ideas on how it’s value to the Community can be increased. Over the past 12 months the Hall was hired out for 247 hours, which is a great usage rate, but we are sure this can be improved. However ideas alone are not sufficient and we do need more volunteers to make new ventures happen. On that note we are looking for a new secretary for the Hall Committee as Lorna Jones is stepping down from this role at the AGM. The Committee only meets once every two months and the meetings are usually in the pub, so no real excuse for not making it! One of the events which seems to be turning into an annual treat is the Beaford Arts Children’s Theatre afternoon – see advertisement opposite . One new 2017 venture for the Hall is its use for Puppy Training Classes run by Paws Control from Barnstaple. If anyone is interested in making use of this local activity please contact Paws Control direct.

Police Report: One crime (theft) was reported last month. Correspondence: There has been a series of recent incidents reported to Action Fraud where a lone fraudster has approached victims, making an excuse to talk, such as asking for directions. After this interaction, several other fraudsters will intervene purporting to be plain clothes police officers gaining the victims trust and saying the person seen is a fraudster. They ask to look at personal items, such as a purse. When items are returned money and items are often missing. Finance:.Annual Governance Statement, Annual Accounting Statement and Internal Auditor's Report all agreed. Statement of Accounts at 11 May 2017, £8454.19 (includes £2500.00 P3 Fund). Planning Matters None received Provision of a Defibrillator: This has been delivered to the Muddiford Inn Group and they are now responsible for the installation and management Footpaths: Bridleway 33 and has been closed for nearly three weeks as a result of serious erosion and it may be necessary to close it for a longer period if remedial work cannot be carried out. Sheep, sheep everywhere…..
…...of every size and shape, from the sheep pen in the porch to those hiding among the floral arrangements. Yes, it was Marwood Church Spring Festival taking the theme of “Jesus the Good Shepherd”. Children enjoyed crafts, games, storytelling, bouncing around and catching magic bubbles with “Jiggy Wrigglers”, an animal fancy dress parade, face painting and eating lots of iced cakes.
Everyone enjoyed barbecued food (not lamb!) as well as drinks and delicious cakes and scones. There were some ingenious entries by adults and children for the best sheep picture or model. ….and the weather?
Well, it did rain on and off, but spirits were not dampened and by 3.45pm the rain stopped for everyone to gather outside to watch cuddly toys parachuting from the church tower. What excitement from the children as they watched the wind taking their toys this way and that! All eventually
reached land, even the one which had to be rescued by ladder from the roof! A big thank you to everyone who helped and came to support making it an enjoyable day which raised over £1100 for the Church Restoration Fund.
