Exterior-Core Construction – Innovative Heating Technology

• The new exterior-core construction consists of separate interior and exterior stones.

• The interior stones form a functioning fireplace.

• The heat-retaining soapstone mass has been concentrated in the inner structures of the fireplace which make up more than 50% of the total mass.

• There are four types of cores: cores for square, vertical and horizontal door models and a core for corner models.

• Functional parts such as doors are attached to the core while the exterior stones act as lining. This allows for more freedom in the design of the exterior stones (structure and materials).

• Thanks to its exterior-core construction, a fireplace retains heat steadily and releases it over a prolonged period.

Tulikivi Whirlbox - Innovative Heating Technology• The Tulikivi whirlbox combustion

technology directs combustion air into the different parts of the firebox, which means the box’s entire capacity is utilized effectively.• About 20% of the total air that is fed into the combustion process goes through the grate (primary air).

• About 40% of combustion air is fed through the fireplace’s panels (secondary air).• About 40% of total air is fed through the firebox door in the form of rinsing air.

• The Tulikivi whirlbox• burns wood efficiently and impressively high

rate of efficiency ( 88%)• generates minimal emissions (e.g. CO 700

ppm)

Tulikivi Whirlbox – Functional Parts

• The Tulikivi whirlbox’s grate helps burn embers completely, producing a minimal amount of ashes and leaving 30-40% less unburned solids than when using a traditional flat grate.

• All the wearing parts of the firebox can be replaced through the firebox door.

Combustion Air Control Unit – Tight and Easy to Use

• The combustion air control unit has a simple and tight construction.

• If necessary, the combustion air control unit can be replaced through the firebox door.

• The combustion air control unit is located at the front of the fireplace under the firebox door.

• The flow of combustion air is controlled by adjusting one lever.

Page 12: Martti Purtola 7 May 2006

Combustion Air Control Unit’s Functional Parts

• The combustion air controller closes the air channels tightly (lever in the ”closed” position).

• The control lever is used to operate the combustion air control unit.

• Combustion air is fed onto the controllers through the air channels.

• The combustion air controller is used to adjust the ratio between primary air flowing under the grate and secondary air flowing onto the firebox panels.

• The steel ashbox has a volume of approximately 5 liters

• The ashbox has a lid.

Flue and Combustion Air Connectors

• The flue is attached to the bottom of the fireplace (standard).

• Combustion air can be channeled directly under the fireplace from outside. The channel ( 150mm, max. length 8 m) should be placed in the area marked in the installation guidelines. Air is directed into the combustion air control unit through an LK3 adapter (add-on).

• The flue connector area is portrayed in brochure plans using a continuous red line.

• A flue connection at the top of the fireplace can be ordered as an add-on for the new fireplaces (order code: product name + T). The flue can be connected either at the top at the back or from above the fireplace through the top lid.

• The place for the top vent and its measurements along the back of the fireplace are displayed in brochure plans.

• A connection at the top of the fireplace increases the fireplace’s depth by 105 mm (displayed in plans using separate measurements and a dashed line).

Page 15: Martti Purtola 7 May 2006

Electric Elements – Comfort and Savings

• Electric elements can also be installed in fireplaces (add-on).

• Electric elements provide comfort and savings: a Tulikivi fireplace equipped with electric elements can be used to take advantage of cheaper off-peak electricity.

• Nominal power and current: 2.0 kW / 10A

• Electric elements (art. no. 5105, length 880 mm) are installed in a fireplace’s smoke channels.

Page 16: Martti Purtola 7 May 2006

Heating a Fireplace – Simpler Than Ever

• The heating of new-generation Tulikivi fireplaces is even simpler than before.

• The fireplace needs hardly any adjustment during heating.

• Recommendations for how much wood should be burned (1 kg of wood / 100 kg of the fireplace’s weight / heating) help the customer use the fireplace correctly.

• The Tulikivi whirlbox burns wood cleanly and efficiently – less maintenance.

• Dry wood (moisture 15-20%) or wood briquettes should be burned in Tulikivi fireplaces.

Removal of Ash and Sweeping – Through the Same Maintenance Door

• Ash is removed using a lidded ashbox (volume ~5 dm3).

• The fireplace’s smoke channels can be swept through the maintenance door by• opening the maintenance door

• removing the ashbox

• With the new fireplaces, ash removal and sweeping can be performed through a maintenance door located at the front of the fireplace.

• opening the sweeping doors (to the sides and the back)

• The fact that cleaning and maintenance can be carried out through a single maintenance door allows for the freer positioning of fireplaces, as there is no need to leave room at the sides for maintenance.
