What is the difference between knowledge and understanding? Knowledge is defined as: facts, information and skills acquired through experience or education. Understanding is defined as: the power of comprehending and the ability to make experience intelligible by applying concepts and categories. Understanding takes our knowledge further so that we are able to apply and fully comprehend facts and ideas. Thinking then takes this to a whole new level. Thinking is the activity of using your mind to consider something. I believe that the fact that thinking is an activity is often neglected. It is important to recognise that the person thinking is required to do something with both the knowledge and understanding that they have. Thinking challenges what we know and understand so that we can grow and learn. Education has to be about thinking. It is always a joy for me when students discover something new because they have been able to use pre-existing knowledge in a new way. Thinking enables our students to become people who are creative, critical and innovative. As a part of our school’s metanarrative we have said that we want our students to be God’s person in God’s place, and under His authority, loving mercy and walking humbly with Him. This requires them to be thinkers. People who take their knowledge and do something with it. As we seek to teach our students, let us find ways to help them think. Let us find ways to build questions into their story so that they seek answers rather than just absorb information. What a blessing to be a part of a community who encourages our students to stretch and grow.

    Thinking is important.

  • As we find ourselves half way through Term 3 of yet another busy year, it is a great opportunity to pause and supply a snap shot of what our Indigenous Boarders have been a part of over the course of the year thus far.

During our Tuesday and Wednesday relief sessions, our boarders have enjoyed cooking, water sports, basketball competitions and AFL football with St Johns and Haileybruy Rendall Indigenous Boarders. These have been enjoyed by all parties as we continue a great relationship and rapport with these College's.

Our houseparents have been super busy facilitating excursions to Mindil Beach, a variety of recreational facilities around Darwin, Litchfield, Casuarina and other fun engagement activities.

Boarding at Marrara Christian College is fantastic!

  • Around The CollegeAt Kingdom Kids, we have recently been exploring a whole new way of learning. We have taken our love of adventure, exploring and problem solving to the bush! As you can see, we have been having a fabulous time each week further developing our bodies and our brains by looking, touching, digging, lifting, climbing, balancing and getting completely hands on and immersed in our

beautiful school bush area. It has been a fantastic way to excite our children’s sense of wonder and enthusiasm in the world around them.

MARRARA ON SHOWWe know that there are a number of College families who own businesses and we would like to both support them and offer them a chance to be involved in this year's Marrara on Show in a different capacity.

If you are interested, please share your knowledge and email Rebecca Barrett at [email protected].

Opportunities include hosting a food stall at our Food Fair, hosting a stall at our Marrara Market, donating items for a silent auction and endless other possibilities!

What's Happening in the Year 8 Maths Sprinkler Project?!

The students are doing some hands- on Maths to benefit the current and future school community by designing the layout of the sprinkler system to go around the new sports shed.

It is their task to measure-up, calculate, research and draw plans for the best sprinkler system they can. We have had visits from our maintenance men and principal to help us understand the workings of reticulation!

    Around The College
