SERO 250 Series

The SERO 250 is available in an attack and search version, SERO 250 A and SERO 250 S. This allows submarines to easily adjust to changing operational conditions and to ful l comple re uirements for surveillance and intelligence gathering. To ease integration the SERO 250 can be operated as a stand-alone system or be integrated into e isting or renewed Combat Management Systems.

The periscope system enables the user to monitor surface and air activity, to collect navigational data and to detect and identify targets. It also provides video signals for parallel observation either on CMS or with a stand-alone console. The SERO 250 can be enhanced with improved night vision capability through the addition of an IR camera as an add-on module.

The SERO 250 design philosophy has been conditioned by the re uirement to enable a simple, rapid and cost-effective retro t into the con nes of any submarine. To achieve this, Hensoldt Optronics has engineered a straightforward drop-in installation through the e isting hull penetration, avoiding any need for hull modi cations and retaining the e isting hydraulic hoist mechanisms, bearings and seals. All SERO 250 human machine interface HMI functionality is resident on a compact ocular bo display unit mounted below the Direct View binocular eyepiece. This self-contained unit includes system settings, camera displays, target information, system status, and communication. As an option, a remote HMI console display can be tted to a bulkhead mount. SERO 250 can also be integrated into a submarine Combat Management System for remote control.

The latest sensor technology of the OMS 150 is complemented by enhanced digital bre optic data transfer and image processing technology, allowing to display the images of up to three cameras simultaneously. The user-friendly intuitive HMI enables highly automated operations of the optronics mast. The combination of sensor data by overlaying images up to sensor fusion signi cantly improves situational awareness. Real time image enhancement includes turbulence correction and navigation light detection as well as overlaying image data (alpha-blending) up to sensor fusion. Recorded images and videos include mission relevant meta data, such as navigational details and time of recording.

OMS 200

The OMS 200 optronics mast series sets itself apart through an enhanced stealth technology as well as its compact design. It provides e cellent information with the combination of an HDTV day camera, a short wave infrared camera (SWIR) and an eye-safe laser range nder in lens ob ective on a single Line of Sight (LOS). This compact solution allows an integration into all types of submarines, for new build and retro t solutions.

The OMS 200, in its role of being a “replacement” to the classical Direct View periscopes was speci cally designed to retain the stealth characteristics in the visual, infrared and radar domains.

SERO 420 and OMS 150A Periscope and Optronics Mast Solution

Since 2004, more than 45 submarines have been e uipped with this classic combination of a Direct View periscope and a non-hull penetrating optronics mast. The system combination, SERO 420 and OMS 150, comprises modern electronics and high resolution sensors. This allows for long-range surveillance and reconnaissance in all ambient light and weather conditions. Our solution unites stealth with profound information gathering capability. Thus, enabling the user to swiftly detect threats, and track, identify and engage potential targets.

Constantly undergoing improvement, this combination represents the state-of-the-art optronics technology for modern submarines.

Simulation

To support crew training and mission rehearsal ashore, Hensoldt Optronics has developed SERO simulator systems which combine representative periscope hardware (comprising ocular bo , video display unit and periscope control unit) with a high- delity scenario generator controlled from a computer-based instructor station.

The use of a shore-based simulator allows familiarity with the SERO system to be built up outside of the submarine, supports operator command training and evaluation and enables tactical training and doctrine development in a repeatable and controlled environment. Furthermore, it signi cantly reduces the need to remain at periscope depth while undertaking at-sea training.

Speci c mission scenarios and geographies operating areas can be pre-programmed by the instructor. A bespoke end user library enables virtual representations of various entities – such as surface and air targets – to be displayed in the SERO simulation environment.

Beside managing scenario generation and tasking, the instructor is able to monitor operator performance during the course of the training session.

Surface systems

Coastline surveillance and the safety of vessels at sea are key issues in today’s maritime environment. The integrity of a country’s territorial waters must be guaranteed at all times. dditionally, the safeguard of national property as well as trade interests worldwide is signi cant. Especially on shipping routes prone to piracy attacks, constant awareness of threats to the ship is a necessity. Safety through effective surveillance is vital at sea, thus, Hensoldt Optronics offers a surveillance solution that meets the highest re uirements. Combining high end cameras and sensors, MEOS II guarantees maximum surveillance capability in support of security while being extremely user friendly.

SurveillanceMEOS II is available as a stand-alone unit or can be fully integrated into CMS and bridge systems. It automatically scans prede ned areas and activates target tracking. MEOS II comprises visual and IR sensors enabling the operator to see clearly at all times in all light and weather conditions. This uni ue combination of state-of-the-art sensors highlights Hensoldt Optronics’ position as a technological pioneer.

Search and RescueWith its leading thermal imaging system MEOS II e cels at search and rescue missions. Thus, the chance of detection of a man in the water is greatly enhanced up to distances of at least 3 km.

Force ProtectionEngineered for minimum latency and ma imum stability, MEOS II comes in stabilised housing suitable for the maritime environment. Tough enough to withstand ha ardous weather conditions, its pan-tilt head enables great e ibility. MEOS II additionally features a laser range nder accompanied by powerful tracking functions. These characteristics render it the system of choice for integration into on-board CMS and bridge systems.
