God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might have eternal Life.

From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we continue to try to make sense out of another senseless shooting of school children, I want to share a prayer that was sent to all of the Augustinians in the three provinces in the

United States.

Almighty God, I come before you, once again, after another shooting. I am sad, God.So I ask you to receive into your loving care the souls of those who were killed, to care for those who were wounded or hurt in any way, to console the family members and friends of those who died or were wounded, to strengthen the hands of the rescue workers, medical

professionals and caregivers. I pray too for the shooter, as I must as a Christian.

All this makes me inexpressibly sad, God. But I know that the sadness I feel is your sadness. It is the same sadness your son expressed when he wept over the death of his

friend Lazarus.

I am tired, God. I'm tired of the unwillingness to see this as an important issue. I'm tired of those in power who work to prevent any real change. I'm tired of those who say that gun violence can't be reduced. All this makes me tired. But I know that the tiredness I feel is

your tiredness. It's the same tiredness that Jesus felt after his own struggles against injustice that led him to fall asleep on the boat with his disciples.

I am angry, God. I'm angry at the seeming powerlessness of our community to prevent this.I'm angry at the selfish financial interests who block change. I'm angry that these shootings happen at all. But I know that this anger is your anger. It's the same anger Jesus felt when he overturned the tables in the Temple, angry that anyone would be taken advantage of in

any way.

Help me see in these emotions your own desire for change. Help me see in these feelings your moving me to act. Help me see in these reactions your pushing me to do something.

Because I know this is the way you move people to action. And I know that you desire action.

For Jesus did not stand by while people were being hurt. He plunged into their lives.

So help me to answer these questions:How can I help?

How can I fight against gun violence? How can I urge my political leaders to enact change?

How can I help people understand that this is an issue about life?

I am sad over the loss of life, tired of excuses for the loss of life, and angry that we are paralyzed by the loss of life.

So, turn my sadness into compassion. Turn my tiredness into advocacy. Turn my paralysis into the freedom to act. Help me to be compassionate, to advocate and to act, as your son

did, Almighty God.

Od proboszcza biurka Drodzy Bracia i Siostry w Chrystusie,

Ponieważ nadal próbujemy zrozumieć kolejna bezmyślna strzelanie do szkolnych dzieci, chcę podzielić się modlitwą, która została wysłana do wszystkich augustianów z trzech

prowincjami w Stanach Zjednoczonych.

Wszechmogący Boże, znów przychodzę przed tobą, po kolejnej strzelaninie. Jestem smutny, Boże. Dlatego proszę , abyś w swojej łaskawości troskliwie przyjął dusze tych,

którzy zostali zabici, abyś opiekowal się tymi, którzy zostali ranni lub zranieni w jakikolwiek sposób, abyś pocieszyl członków rodziny i przyjaciół tych, którzy zginęli lub zostali ranni, abys wzmocnić ręce ratowników, personelu medycznego i opiekunów. Modlę się też za

zabojce.

To ten sam

gniew, jaki odczuł Jezus, gdy przewrócił stoły w świątyni, zły, że ktokolwiek zostanie wykorzystany w jakikolwiek sposób.

Pomóż mi dostrzec w tych emocjach twoje własne pragnienie zmiany. Pomóż mi dostrzec w tych uczuciach, że zmuszasz mnie do działania. Pomóż mi zobaczyć w tych reakcjach,

że popychasz mnie do zrobienia czegoś. Ponieważ wiem, że w ten sposób angażujesz nas do działania. I wiem, że pragniesz działania.

Bo Jezus nie stał z boku, gdy ludzie byli ranni.

KEEP HOLY THE SABBATHThere’s no better way to deepen our Lenten practice than to

review the Ten Commandments. The first three, having to do with our right relationship to God, get the most ink. The one we busy people probably have the most problem with is keeping holy the

Sabbath.

If we take this commandment literally, babies will go undiapered and dishes will stay on the table, or perhaps meals will not be

served. The sick will go unattended and nothing that has anything to do with physical labor will be done. Is mental labor really work?

How about changing that dirty diaper (poor baby!)?

We need to depend on God to discern how to observe real Sabbath time in our lives. The point of this commandment is that God has given us a great gift: one whole day per week when we are free to rest, worship God, sing, feast, love, and rejoice. As

Psalm 19 proclaims: “The law of the LORD is perfect, / refreshing the soul” (19:8). Our Sabbath rest is a great gift, to be received

from God with joy, not with nitpicking.

Third Sunday of LentI, the LORD, am your God . . .You shall not have other

gods besides me.— Exodus 20:2a, 3

The Baby Bottle Project Beginning the weekend of February 18th, our parish will be

participating in The Baby Bottle Project benefiting The Women’s Centers of Greater Chicagoland. This non-profit organization

directly assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering emotional, financial, material, and spiritual

support through counseling, clothing & monetary provisions, prayer, and other aid. Each year the three locations together have over 5,000 appointments with expecting mothers. By God’s Grace, The Women’s Centers have saved over 40,000 babies—and their

mothers—from abortion since opening in 1984.

Please take a Baby Bottle home with you from the church on February 18th, fill it with your spare change, and return it by

the weekend of March 11, 2018.

This is a simple, but crucial fundraising effort for The Women’s Centers. Please note the Baby Bottles cost almost $1.00 per bottle

and are recycled afterwards so please return upon completion of the project. Thank you for helping defend life, and

remember to keep all pro-life undertakings in your prayers.

Also if you are making a donation by check, please make it payable to: The Women’s Center.

Thank you!

We Are One Family, Encircled by God’s Love!

Saint Turibius Parish

Parish Mission Statement

We Believe that God is Love, and when we live in love we live in God and God lives in

us! Therefore we, the Parish Family of Saint Turibius, dedicate ourselves to living out

Christ’s Great Commandment: we will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength, and we will show our love for God

by the way we love and care for one another. To this end, we will respond to our baptismal

call, strengthened by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and empowered by

the Holy Spirit. As a Family of Faith that has an Attitude of Gratitude for the gifts God has given to us, we will share our time, our talent

and our treasure with each other. We welcome into our parish family all people, because we

believe that together we are the Body of Christ and together we can bring the love, peace,

forgiveness, healing, and joy of Christ into our community in ways we never could have if we were to remain apart. May all who meet us, who worship with us, who work and play with

us, know we are Christians by our love!
