My dear friends in Christ, We had a great Lenten Mission in our parish on Disciples on a Mission of- fered by Tony and Chris from Casting Nets Ministries. I loved this mission because it focused on becoming true and faithful disciples of Jesus. When Jesus ascended into heaven, the only commissioning he offered his disciples was this: Go and make disciples. A disciple is one who picks up the entire life style of the master. He is not one who just picks the head of the master and ignores the living ways of God. When Jesus offered his disciples no com- fort, no inheritance, but just opposition, rejection and challenges, they still decided to follow him. They walked with him, learned to think like him, approach life like him and live it totally for God. Trusting God to- tally for living your life is the radical call to discipleship. We all pick up a few things from Jesus and we are con- vinced that we follow Jesus. We could also be regular mass attendees and attend a Bible Study now and then and go to few retreats. Does that mean we have all become disciples of Jesus? I don’t think so. What else makes you and I as good disciples of Jesus? It is our radical freedom to say yes to Jesus’ call. I t i s o u r r e a d i n e s s t o b e i n a l l t h e w a y . It is not a half- hearted yes where I follow the ways of Jesus whenever it is convenient and decide to have my own ways when it is inconvenient. For an example, I don’t want to reach out to someone whom I don’t like much. Or I don’t want to offer something to God or to the poor from my needs rather from my surplus. Another area of our discipleship is that I don’t feel the need to come out of a habitual sin that I commit regularly. In all such simple things, if our following Jesus is only selective and convenient then we are not all the way in. We have only jumped the half well. Is there anything such as jumping half of the well? You will fall into the well. During this Lent, let us think of our discipleship much more seriously. Am I whole heartedly offering myself to God? Do I trust the Lord in everything I do and accept the call to be a disciple sincerely or half-heartedly? If yes, then let us become faithful disciples and change the style of our Christian life radically. Let the Lord bless you in this journey of discipleship. Your brother in Christ, Fr. Strengthen your bond with Jesus during Lent and beyond!

As we continue on our Lenten journey, many of us hope to draw closer to Jesus; to go above and beyond what we know to further our faith journey. There are many ways we can aspire to strengthen our bond with Jesus; inviting a spiritual mentor/director to help you stay the course throughout Lent(and beyond) is a great way to start!

What is spiritual mentorship/direction? It is confidentially talking with someone for an hour each month about YOUR faith journey; discussing your challenges and blessings which affect you spiritually. It’s learning to be aware of God’s voice and allowing his presence to guide your life above all else.

If you are interested, please call the parish office at 218-773-0877 and ask to speak with Deacon Steve Thomas to be connected with a spiritual mentor/director.
