President’s Corner by Richard Fossier

As the SGS is getting closer to the Golf Tournament and Symposium we are in need of the support from our local membership. To date our local membership registrations for the Symposium have been poor while our out of town response has been significant. The Symposium has been from the very beginning designed with the New Orleans membership in mind. The SGS Executive Committee felt that the quality and level of talks would meet most if not all of our immediate requirements in understanding the applications and implementations of wide azimuth acquisition and processing. As most of you know there will be hundreds of millions dollars spent on wide azimuth acquisitions in the Gulf of Mexico this year; more than any

other seismic imaging technology being implemented. Whether you believe it or not wide azimuth will have an effect on how you do business and converse with others in the industry. The SGS has developed this symposium to help you understand the technology and even though some of these talks may be technically focused others will not. This is your opportunity to do two (2) things: (1) support your local society before our peers in the industry and show that New Orleans is still a vital center of the oil and gas industry (2) seek to better understand wide azimuth and its applications. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed. Richard

From SGA Auxiliary President:

Ladies enjoying good conversation and lovely delicacies with their tea.

On Thursday January 18, 2007 the SGA met at the Windsor Court for High Tea. It measured up to Windsor Court’s usual impecable style and delectable fare. Attendees came from more than 50 miles to enjoy. Next up is the Lunch at Commander’s Palace on Washington Avenue on March 15. Our speaker will be Cynthia Alberts from the Better Business Bureau Anyone wishing to attend can call me at 737-9697. Rosemary Austin January SGA-Tea at the Windsor Court

The Second Vice President’s Corner by Tim Maciejewski

Greetings fellow SGS’ers. With all the e-mails that I have to respond to regarding the Symposium, I will make this month’s column condensed. With the Ladies Auxiliary at the meeting, we had 56 people in total at the February luncheon. There were Valentine chocolates for the ladies and we even had a special treat for the gentlemen in attendance. Now for some Symposium information, please RSVP as soon as possible, we are expecting a larger then usual crowd and I have several people RSVP from outside the New Orleans region. This should be an interesting group of presentations. Since we are limited in space at the Windsor, we are requesting pre-payment to guarantee seating. Right now we have a 120 person limit that we might be able to push to 150. The hotel would need

to do some meeting juggling if we need the extra room ( I cannot guarantee the extra space ). I am still looking for additional posters for the meeting; so if you have one ready for showing, please let me know. Also, we are still looking for additional Golf tournament hole sponsors to support the SGS Scholarship fund. I would like to thank the sponsors of the Symposium: Petroleum Geo-Services, WesternGeco, GX Technology and Chevron. If your company would like to sponsor the Symposium also, please let me know. Take care and I will see you on the golf course, Tim M…

February Luncheon Highlights

Jasmin Simmons, a 16 year old junior at New Orleans Center for Science and Math demonstrated ballet techniques as part of the New Orleans Ballet Association’s presentation at the February luncheon.

Jasmin Simmons also showed her talents in an interpretive dance. NOBA’s stellar work with New Orleans schools and youth was the subject of the talk.
