Basketball:
Jr. A teams are wrapping up their season with
playoffs beginning on Feb. 27 and March 1. So
far both the boys and girls have had stellar
seasons . We wish them all the best during this
playoff week!
Jr. B teams have completed their seasons with
the girls winning the first place plaques and
the boys winning the second place plaque.
Congratulations to all our
teams who represented STA
so well.
Lenten Projects
As we continue through this Lenten season, we are remind-
ed that Lent is a time for almsgiving or giving to others who
are less fortunate than ourselves. Last year’s donations of
packaged underwear were very much appreciated. Catholic
Social Services distributed them to families in the archdio-
cese at their Uplift: Day of Mercy event. This year we are
once again holding a variety of activities throughout the
month of February including collecting packaged underwear
to support the good works done by Catholic
Social Services. Boxes will be located in each
classroom for these donations. Thank you for
your ongoing support for these very worthwhile
initiatives.
Report Cards and Parent Teacher Interviews:
Report cards will be distributed on Friday, March 16th at the end of the day. Parent/Teacher interviews will take place on Mon-
day, March 19 and Tuesday, March 20 from 4-7 p.m.
Gr. 5-6 parents can set up an appointment online using the School Appointments online website found in the Feature Links sec-
tion on the front page of the STA website.
Gr. 7 –8 parents can see teachers in the gym on a first come first served basis.

hearsal will start at 3:10 pm and go until approximately 4:15 pm.

the afternoon of Wednesday, March 22.

Grade 7-8 Jasper Ski Trip:
On February 20, those students who were interested
in attending a ski trip to Marmot Basin Ski Resort met
with the ski club coordinators to be briefed on the trip expectations and learn
about this opportunity to ski in the mountains.
On Friday, March 16 they will be going to Marmot Basin Ski Resort in Jasper.
The coach bus will leave the school at 5:30 a.m. and return at approximately
8:00 p.m. the same day.
Have a wonderful day in that fresh mountain air!!
March Athletes of the Month
Nicolle "Coco" is a student athlete of the St. Thomas Aquinas Basket-ball Team. This is his third year playing for the Junior A Team. I am proud to honor Nicolle of Feb-ruary Athlete of the Month, as he is someone who works hard and has made tremendous strides in his game. If you come to St. Thomas Aquinas at any point of the school year, you will see him shooting hoops before, during lunch hour, and after school out-side. His mindset is to always get better and strive for great-ness! Congratulations Nicolle and keep up the hard work!
Liora has been a quiet, but strong leader on the Jr. A bas-ketball team this year. Liora consistently strives to improve in practice and in games. She is extremely coachable and always tries to incorporate new skills into her game. Liora is a great teammate. She strives to build up her team through her actions and words. It has been wonder-ful to see Liora’s growth as an individual and player over this basketball season.
Thunder Badminton:
You know spring has sprung when the badminton season ar-
rives! STA’s badminton team is anxious to hone their skills
and start competing. Try-outs for grade 6, 7, or 8 students
will take place in March. The team is being coached by Mr.
Boyko, Mrs. Darby, Mr. O’Donovan and Mrs. St. Amand. Bad-
minton has a short season with games and practices held
throughout April culminating in the final tournament in the
beginning of May. Watch for STA Thunder to make some
noise on the badminton court in 2018!

Running Room Games:
On February 20st, four teams represented the elementary students at the Running Room Indoor Games (former Journal Games).
Two girls and two boys teams, for a total of 36 students, had a great experience at the U of A Butterdome, in Edmonton.
The Girls B and Boys A teams have made it through the qualifying rounds of the relay competition and they are moving on to the
quarter finals on March 17. In addition, on March 13th three teams (one mixed, one boys and one girls) will compete in the Run-
ning Room Games. This time they will represent our Jr. High students, who will hopefully join the elementary students at the finals
on Saturday, March 17h.
Best of luck to all our talented STA athletes!
