Dear Parishioners, The familiar passages from the Gospel of St. Luke (15: 1-31) regarding forgiveness, about the The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin and the third parable, and the Prodigal Son, keep going back to something we often hear and say but find hard to embrace -- the fact that God’s love has no limits. The parable reminds us that we all have done stupid things in life, very often hurting deeply the people we care about the most. And, yes, we all are tempted from time to time to let resentments build up against others for all kinds of reasons. After a while in both situa-tions, more often than not, things get so complicated that it’s hard for us to even figure out how it all began. But God teaches us to let go of the “whys” and “what ifs” and try to embrace the present moment. Can we believe in a generous God? Can we believe in second chances? Can we see the good in the other even though we feel deeply hurt as certainly the Father did in the parable? Lent is a time to seek God's forgiveness. It's a time to forgive someone in our life. I bring your attention to the following. Check the bulletin for more details. • The English Lenten Mission with Deacon Peter

and Mr. Karaban – Sunday, March 17th at 6 p.m. Monday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m., and Tuesday, March 19th at 6:30 p.m. (Note the time.)

• The Polish Lenten Mission – with Father Marcin

Zasada, Sunday, March 24 – 12:30 p.m. Mass, Monday, March 25, Tuesday, March 26, and Wednesday, March 27 all at 7 p.m.

• A lecture on “Transforming Anger to Meet Our

Needs” by Blanca and Jim Donahue on Thursday, March 28 from 7 - 8 p.m. in the Parish Ministry Center. The talk will focus on practicing compas-sionate communication.

• A Classical Music Concert in our church – J.S.

Bach, “St. Matthew Passion” Sunday, March 31 at 3 p.m. There is complimentary admission, with a free will donation. Let the music move your heart to be more compassionate.

What is the lesson about God's Forgiveness? The lesson is simple: Give forgiveness and you will unleash a flood of grace on yourself and on those around you. When you clench your fists and grit your teeth in anger towards someone, you have no room in your heart for God to place His hand in yours. Replace your clenched fist with an open hand and watch as God fills your soul overflowing. I'm praying for you during this Lent. Father Mike Meany Drodzy parafianie, Znane fragmenty z Ewangelii św. •

Angielskie Wielkopostne Misje z diakonem Pio-trem i panem Karabanem odbędą się: niedziela, 17 marca o godzinie 18.00 Poniedziałek, 18 marca o 18:30 i wtorek, 19 marca o 18:30. (Zwróć uwagę

• Polskie Misje Wielkopostne - z ks. Marcinem Zasadą, niedziela, 24 marca - godz. 12:30 Msza św., Poniedziałek, 25 marca, wtorek, 26 marca i środa, 27 marca, wszystkie o godz. 19:00.

• Wykład "Transformacja gniewu w celu zaspoko-jenia naszych potrzeb" Blanca i Jima Donahue w czwartek, 28 marca, w godz. 19-20:00 w Centrum Duszpasterstwa Parafialnego. Rozmowa skupi się na ćwiczeniu współczującej komunikacji.

• Koncert muzyki klasycznej w naszym kościele - J.S. Bach, "St. Matthew Passion "Niedziela, 31 marca o godz.

Lenten English Mission

Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody: The Life-Changing Power of Grace Sunday, March 17th 6 p.m. Evening Mass Monday, March 18th 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service Tuesday, March 19th 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service Deacon Peter John Pedrasa and Mr. Maciek Karaban, Pastoral Associate Inspired by the book by Allen R. Hunt, Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody, Deacon Peter and Mr. Karaban will reflect of the power of forgiveness. Through the use of real-life experiences and theology, they will explore how so many people today fail to capture the power of forgiveness because they are afraid of it, because they have grown comfortable in their familiar wounds, or because they are just stub-born. The Lenten Mission will help us explore the reasons that for even the best of us forgiveness is usu-ally underrated and understated. Our prayers together will hopefully enable us to give forgiveness and to unleash the many graces within us.

Deacon Peter John Pedrasa, will be ordained as a Priest for the Diocese of Tucson, Arizona, this May. He is currently completing a Masters in Divinity from The Uni-versity of Saint Mary of the Lake at Mundelein Seminary, Mundelein, Illinois. Deacon Peter has served at

March 17: Second Sunday of Lent Lent is a call not just to “give up some-thing” but more important to “give something for the poor.” Wherever you

live in the parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your home. When in need, they ring the rectory bell. They are, in effect, ringing your doorbell.

Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St.Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor. Have you considered joining the Society of St. Vin-cent de Paul? Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor.

W razie potrzeby dzwonią do drzwi proboszcza. Wincentego a Paulo? Jeśli znasz rodzinę która potrzebuje pomocy prosze zadzwoń do naszego Stowarzyszenia St. Vincent de Paul. Razem możemy pomóc cierpiacym i potrzebu-jącym.

St. John Brebeuf is sharing a special request -- Niles residents are also asked to bring food items to donate to Niles Family Services when they drop off things for the Recycling Drive. "The food is going out faster

than it is coming in," says Tony Hollenback, director of Family Services at the Village of Niles. He added that the support of the community is essential to help families in need. Non-perishable food items, toiletries, and laundry detergent are especially requested. Dear Friends,

Thank you for keeping me in your prayers during the recent Meeting on the Protection of Minors in the Church, convened by the Holy Father in Rome. Your support gave me great hope and encouragement, and I would like to provide you with an update on what was accomplished and our next critical steps.

This meeting set the direction of the entire global Church on the question of child safety. Our firm resolve and the actions we will take are a direct result of hearing the testimony of victims/survivors throughout the meeting. Their unflinching witness moved the hearts of the participants and the world and led us to recommit to a common mission of making the Church a safe place for all, achieved by taking personal responsibility, holding bishops accountable, and practicing transparency.

The nine talks over three days were given by presenters approved by the Holy Father. Each of the speakers pointed out the failures of bishops to act responsibly and described the damage done by their lack of accountability and transparency. Pope Francis built on what was said in the various talks by making it clear at the end of the Mass on Sunday that the Church’s agenda in protecting children must be proactive not reactive or defensive. He insisted that the Church will spare no effort to hold abusers accountable and will not tolerate cover-ups.

The all-out effort which the pope has called will continue to build over time and will be marked by a commitment to ongoing learning and improving, particularly by listening to victims/survivors of abuse.

Four concrete steps were announced at the end of the meeting. 1. The imminent publication of a motu proprio by the pope, providing rules and regulations to safeguard

minors and vulnerable adults within the Vatican City State; 2. The distribution of a “vademecum” (or rulebook) to bishops around the world, standardizing

guidelines so church leaders everywhere take on this task in a united way and explaining their juridical and pastoral duties and responsibilities regarding protecting children;

3. Recognizing that the global Church is marked by great culture diversity and unique regional challenges, task forces of competent experts that are culturally sensitive and regionally representative will be organized to assist bishops’ conferences that may lack the necessary resources or expertise to fully address the issue of safeguarding minors and dealing with abuse;

4. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is responsible for approving the norms of each bishops’ conference.

With this letter, I invite you to view the major talks, prayer services with testimonies of victims/survivors, the penitential ceremony and Mass, all of which were streamed live so the entire world could follow this event. The videos and talks are posted on the Vatican’s dedicated website at pbc2019.org.

You can be sure of a place in my prayers, and I ask that you keep victims/survivors, our Church, and our community in yours. Sincerely yours in Christ,

Cardinal Blase J. Cupich Archbishop of Chicago

Medical Social Worker III Blanca F. Donahue, MS of Education, BA Psychology,

Retired Elementary School Education Teacher

Through the use of story telling, sacred scripture, and the practical experience gained through 30 years as a social worker, Mr. Donahue, will guide us on how we can all better transform our anger rather than repressing it. A few of the topics that will be explored: Reflect on who do you know that handles anger well? Learn the Practice of Mindfulness - Slow breathing, walking, quiet prayer, Be grateful. You are breathing, alive. Appreciate the moment. This practice prepares you to respond with compassion. Discover how we all can learn to feed the seeds of com-passion instead of the seeds of anger/judgement. Practice - Compassionate Communication James G. Donahue, now retired, worked for The Cook County Health and Hospital System as a Medical Social Worker and Addiction Counselor for 30 years at Dr. Jorge Prieto Family Health Center located in Little Village Community of Chicago. As a Certified Addiction Counselor and National Certified Re-covery Specialist he worked part-time as an Addiction Counse-lor for Pillars in Hickory Hills, Illinois. It was beautiful 4 weeks in the Land of our Lord! Thanks to Mun-delein Seminary I could go once again to the Holy Land as a priest and serve as a Spiritual Director and Confessor to 3rd year Theolo-gy Seminarians as they prepared for their priesthood. Once again, I could follow steps of Christ from Capernaum, the Sea of Galilee to Jerusalem. It was great to go and see those places once again, but what it was even greater, was to pray for all of you and say masses

at Calvary, Gethsemane Garden, Magdala, and the greatest: at the Tomb of Jesus Christ in Holy Sepul-cher! I prayed for all of you and gave thanks to God for beautiful four years among you at St. John Brebeuf! I keep praying for you and please pray for me! From the bottom of my heart: Thank You! Fr. Piotr Samborski

To były piękne 4 tygodnie w Ziemi Świętej! Jana Brebeuf! Obiecuję modlitwę i proszę o modlitwę za mnie! Z głębi mojego serca: Dziękuję! Ks. Piotr Samborski
