OBSERVANCE of THE LORD’S SUPPER... The first Sunday of each quarter gives us the opportunity to be reminded of Christ’s LOVE

and GRACE through the observance of the Lord’s Supper. Let’s start the “NEW YEAR” with a

renewed desire to reflect His likeness and character & to serve Him together in 2012!

BIBLICAL NUTRITION SUPPORT GROUP… On Tuesday - January 10th at 6:30 pm - the Biblical Nutrition Support Group will resume their support group

meetings. It is designed for those who want to adopt a plant-based diet or want to incorporate more fruits & vegetables into their diet. You’re asked to please bring a dish to the pot luck meal that is 100% plant based,

NO meat or diary products and preferably NO refined white flour or sugar in the recipe.

Afterwards, Olin will lead a discussion focusing on Biblical principles (and scientific research) for nourishing the body God has entrusted to each of us based on Genesis 1:29!

NEW MEMBER’S CLASS… Coming Soon...we will be offering a “New Member’s Class” for any of our

ADULTS who have joined our church over the past year. It will meet in the

Sanctuary at 9:45 am on Sunday morning. This 5 week course will cover some

basic doctrines of our faith & biblical expectations of church

membership...culminating with a “Spiritual Gift” discovery survey.

YOUR SUPPORT IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE… Through November - Yadkin Christian Ministries has provided $ 289,675 of assistance in food, power, fuel, medication, rent and water. The ministry has averaged assisting 93 families per week and the volunteers have filled 18,502 bags of groceries. New Hope Pregnancy Care has served 457 ladies of which 69 were first time clients. They had the privilege of sharing the Gospel with over 306 clients and have rejoiced with 1 client praying to receive Christ. They’ve conducted 105 pregnancy tests and celebrated the birth of 8 babies, because their mothers chose life. It has been exciting to witness 45 women learning, through parenting & Bible study classes, how to be good mothers - both practically & spiritually. They’ve received $ 15,000 of the $ 25,000 needed to start their ultrasound project and conversion to a medical clinic. Our church supports these vital ministries, because we believe they are an extension of the Christian community and are on the “front lines” sharing the GOSPEL and seeing GOD change LIVES!!

SHARE IN A COMMUNITY CHOIR… A new church start in our association - The Triple Cross Cowboy Church is asking for our help. They are

hosting a special rally with Danny Funderburk, former tenor with the Cathedral Quartet, at the Lone Hickory

Arena on Saturday - January 28th from 6 till 9 pm. Anyone wishing to sing in a “mass choir” will meet at the arena by 5 pm to rehearse two songs - “Jesus

Messiah” and “Heavenly Medley” - which were a part of the choir clinic last October. Please contact the

associational office by Thursday - January 25th with a number of participants from your church & if possible brush up on these two songs before the rally. This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of reaching people

who need to know Jesus Christ as their Lord & Savior!

Youth Tubing Trip to Ski Hawknest…

Plans are tentatively being made to take our YOUTH during an

upcoming break from school - Monday - January 23rd. We’ll share

more details in the upcoming Sunday bulletin.

Winter Jam 2012…

NewSong will once again host their 15th Tour Spectacular

with Skillet, Sanctus Real, Peter Furler, Kari Jobe, Building

429 and Group 1 Crew...PLUS…a pre-jam party with Dara

Maclean, We as Human & For King & Country. In addition to

this incredible music, there’s an illusionist Brock Gill and Nick

Hall will be sharing a powerful message of hope from God’s Word!

It’s all happening at the Greensboro Coliseum on Saturday

Feb 4th!! The doors open at 5 pm and the concert will begin at

6 pm. The cost is $ 10 at the door with a love offering being

received during the concert.

We plan on leaving the church in time to get to the coliseum

when the doors are to open. This is a great event to invite your

friends to join us!!

Bible Study…

Katrina will soon be resuming your Weekly Bible Study & Time

of Fellowship on Sunday evenings; as well as, the opportunity of

study on Wednesday nights. Check with her for more details!!

I always enjoy all the Christmas celebrations and how they fill my heart with memorable moments of JOY and GLADNESS!! The opportunity to share the Spirit of Christmas with others through the beautiful decorations, thoughtful words

penned in Christmas cards, experiences of fellowship like our Missions Banquet, Class Parties and the time of refreshments after

the Children/Youth Christmas programs, the thrill of “being on mission” through Morgan sharing with us her “first hand account” of last summer’s Xtreme Mission Trip to Kampala, Uganda and witnessing your response to be HIS HEART, HIS

HANDS and HIS VOICE through giving in our annual missions march, the “Sounds of the Season” from our Adult Choir’s presentation of Winter’s Grace, the reminder of “what Christmas is really all about” from familiar cartoon characters &

superheroes, the delightful experiences of worship as we celebrated the four Sunday’s of Advent...through it all we’ve discovered

how God desires to fill our hearts with HOPE, PEACE, JOY and LOVE!! I trust you’re willing to receive what He promises to do “in us” and “through us” in the NEW YEAR!

As we approach 2012, may we remember the words of Paul,

“Nothing is as wonderful as knowing Christ Jesus my Lord! I have given up everything

else and count it all as garbage. All I want is Christ and to know that I belong to HIM!”

- Philippians 3:8-9a

The pursuit of Christian maturity doesn’t just happen - it is the result of making “growing in Christ” a TOP priority in our life. In the day and time in which we live, this is becoming more & more difficult, because so many things demand our time

& attention. We must come to the place of making our walk with the Lord the FOCAL POINT of our lives.

In the coming year, may we not get caught up in the “many things” and sacrifice the “one thing” God desires for us – to SEEK first HIS Kingdom and LOVE HIM above all! The best way to experience this reality in our daily lives is to make our

TIME with HIM our FIRST priority…digging deeper into HIS Word each & every day and growing closer to HIM through

PRAYER!! The Lord has richly blessed our efforts in ministry and I believe our BEST days are very much before us!! He continues

to assemble together “an army of servants” equipped to serve Him on MISSION and in MINISTRY. What is needed to “keep us

on track”? A REMINDER of our purpose - TO KNOW HIM and TO MAKE HIM KNOWN! So, TOGETHER we might glorify HIM in everything we set out to accomplish!!

As you’re able to see - our Picnic Shelter is almost finished. Gray & his crew are in their “short rows”. I’m indebted to

the leadership of Donald Johnson & the members of our Long Range Planning Committee for their diligence and dedication. One of the goals of this “new addition” is to use it for our Wednesday night Suppers...so we’ve decided NOT to resume our meals

until we’re able to occupy & utilize this wonderful space! I invite you to join me as we gather at 7 pm on Wednesday nights for a

time of study & prayer...concluding in time for our Adult Choir to begin their practice at 7:45 pm. We’re constantly evaluating how to be good stewards of the resources God has entrusted to our care. One of the things

we’re considering is encouraging those within our church family...who have an internet connection to more regularly use our

church website. We totally redesigned it back in the summer. There’s an interactive calendar, an innovative way to “share the Gospel”, useful information to assist “those looking for a place to fellowship”, we’ve simplified how to email our staff - just use

their first name followed by @maplewoodbc.org. For example...if you’d like to email me...just type jimmy@maplewoodbc.org.

You can access our monthly newsletters and listen to a variety of Sunday messages. Please continue to pray, as we search for someone to serve as our “part-time” children’s director. We’re looking for

someone who has a heart for children and can easily relate the truth of God’s Word on their level. We’ve received several

inquiries about the position and soon will begin interviewing these candidates. How grateful I am for how our Sunday School classes & ministries continue to support & encourage Tiffany Matthews in

her ongoing recovery from her auto accident in October. She was able to come home on Thursday - December 22nd and was

warmly greeted by several of her classmates...who had decorated her street & home with posters and banners. She will soon begin her outpatient rehab at Comp Rehab - 3 days a week. Brent is planning on taking her back & forth...several have made

themselves available to help out.

As we’ve enjoyed all the celebration surrounding Christmas...there are several within our church & community who have experienced the heartache of “missing loved one’s” God called home over the past year. Some are facing uncertain days ahead

with the status of their employment or are awaiting news about a diagnosis concerning their health. This is why I’m so grateful

for our church family at Maplewood, because I know they can count on YOU to BE THERE for THEM!! Please know of my desire to “walk along aside of you” and cheer you along life’s way. If there are specific ways I or

your family deacon can do that for YOU, don’t hesitate to share them with us. I truly LOVE each of YOU and am eternally

grateful to GOD for giving me the privilege of serving as your shepherd!!
