Final K-2 Assembly Our final K-2 Assembly for 2017 has been rescheduled from Friday this week to Thursday 15th December at 12:30pm. Students in K Orange are going to perform a song. Any child in K-2 who has 4 Expectation Cards sitting at home and would like to receive their Expectation Certificate this week, please bring them to my office on Thursday morning.

Stationery and Textbooks for Students in K -6 Stationery and textbook items for 2017 will be available for purchase through the Flexischools website.

www.flexischools.com.au As informed at the recent P & C meeting, in 2017 we are ordering both our stationery

and textbooks from a local company, Humphreys. All orders are to be placed online. Once the link is live, we will inform parents so you can attend to this at your convenience. For those parents without internet access, there will be a phone number available for parents to call. Humphreys provides this service to parents, however, if you prefer to purchase stationery items independently, we ask that you endeavour to source the same brands as indicated on the stationery list. We will send an email to parents as well as paper copies of requested stationery items before the end of the school year.

Stationery items will be delivered to classrooms on Friday 27th January. Textbooks will be delivered on Friday 3rd February after students in Years 1 -6 move into their classes for 2017.

Students in Years 2 - 6 will take their bag of stationery items home during the first week of school and are asked to return them labelled by Friday 3rd February.

Transition for Year 2 Students Moving to Year 3

Tomorrow, students and staff in Year 2 and 3 are joining for a Transition Meeting. Year 3 students and staff will share experiences with Year 2 students to assist their transition to the primary years. There are many new

activities and opportunities unique to Years 3 – 6, one of the first in 2017 being the Swimming Carnival. Best Start for Kindergarten 2017 Kindergarten students attend the Transition Morning on Wednesday 1st February from 9:45 until 12pm.

This is their first official day at school. Students go directly to classrooms. Prefects and staff will be available to assist. If your child is not able to attend school on this day, please inform the office. Kindergarten students will also attend school at an allocated time in the week beginning the 30th January for their 30 minute Best Start Assessment. This is not a test but a way teachers become familiar with each student so they can best meet their learning needs. For more information regarding Kindergarten 2017, please refer to the school website.

Ethics in 2017 Ethics has been a great success at Manly West thanks to the volunteer coordinators and teachers who have been involved in the program. It is an option for students who attend Non-Scripture. We currently do not have

enough Ethics teachers to teach the number of interested students who are waiting for placement. At this stage fewer students will be able to be placed in 2017. If you are interested in your child attending Ethics next year, please consider volunteering to teach Ethics or perhaps ever so nicely encourage a fellow parent or community member. Please see the note below from Louise Fletcher, our Ethics Coordinator.

Staff officially return to school for the Staff Development Day on Friday 27th January, 2016 and please note that school speed zones apply on this day. The NSW Department of Education and Communities set this as Week 1 of our school term. This means that students in Years 1-6 start the school year in Week 2, on Monday 30th January.

We wish you all a safe and fun-filled holiday and look forward to your return looking refreshed in 2017. To the students and families who are leaving us this year, best wishes for a happy and successful

future.

Special thanks to all our Year 6 students for their support to our staff and younger students. Your buddies adore you and the student body aspire to follow your lead. As you walk through the gate in uniform for the last time, remember, wherever you go, whatever you do, you will always remain part of the Manly West community.

Mrs Wendy Mwanga

On behalf of the BASC staff I would like to say thank you to the parents and children for another

fun and successful year at BASC! In 2016 we have had many highlights including our extensive

Incursion Program – 3D design and printing, Drumming, Farmer Dave and his Muttley Crew and

the 9D Cinema to name a few.

There are also lots of exciting plans for 2017 including new technology, landscaping between our

rooms and K-2 room improvements and redecorating.

Thanks to our volunteer parent Management Committee for their commitment to helping us

provide a fun, happy and safe environment for the children. Thanks also to Mrs Organ and Manly

West school staff for their continued support.

Good luck and best wishes to the children and staff who are moving on next year. We will miss you
