Objective & Methods:VTE Guidance Project of AC Forum

OBJECTIVE

To provide practical and implementable information for the providercommunity, the AC Forum initiated a “guidance” project by assemblingexperts in the disciplines of VTE research, education and care, askingthem to consider practical everyday questions about the treatment of VTEusing the best medical evidence and existing guidelines, but not hesitatingto offer consensus opinions when high-quality evidence is not available.

METHODSBased on experience, authors developed a list of important clinical questions about the subject they were assigned, and by consensus, narrowed the list to approximately 10 items. A literature search ensued focusing on the previous 10 years. The lead author developed the manuscript with extensive reviews and revisions by the co-authors. “Guidance” is suggested based on best available evidence or consensus opinion.
