Hello Makybe Rise Families
What a magnificent Open Night we had this
week— the Makybe magic was well and truly
in the air! As both a parent and a Principal, I
could not be more proud of our classrooms
and displays - both in our general and
specialist classes. From Kindy to Year 6, and
Science through to Art, one clear message
consistently shone through: we are proud of
our standards and our children are ever more
equipped to stand on their tippy toes to reach
them. Nothing makes our children more
confident than knowing that they are
successful learners. #opportunityisknocking
Our Wellness Fair was humming
with positivity and the night was superbly
completed with a vibrant Fully SIC where we
clapped till our hands hurt and laughed till we
cried. Congratulations to all our performers
and especially our winner as voted by the
students: Alfie; to our community favourite,
Hunter, and to Michelle, who received the
encouragement award from the School
Board! A huge congratulations to Rory—
Australia’s Student Speaker Award winner!
Check out the next page to find out the
winners of our Spelling Bee and Maths Facts

Makybe Rise News Student Success Week @Makybe
What a wonderful and very busy Open Night we have had in the German room. A huge Danke schön to all the families who came and supported their children in their learning of another lan-guage.
One of the highlights for me was the lantern walk around the early childhood area with the Year three students and their lanterns. The students designed their own house-lantern, strengthening their vocabulary knowledge of colours and family members. Students learnt about St Martin, who was a very kind and humble man who helped others. St Martin’s day is celebrated on the 11th November, and traditionally, chil-dren go on a lantern walk around that time. In the lead up to the lantern walk, we discussed its cultural im-portance, and compared and contrasted it to traditions in Australia. Frau Mueller

Fully SIC Performance Festival
Last Tuesday, during out Students Success Week Open Night, we held an art exhibition. The exhibition show-cased the beautiful and creative artworks from all of our students. Some students ( approximately 130) had their amazing work chosen to be framed and displayed on stands. The Year 5 and 6 students from last semester also has their mosaic tiles displayed on stands. The amount of parents that came through is a testament to how proud the students were of their artwork. The stu-dents that were chosen to have their artwork framed re-ceived a certificate for their achievement. Rhys Gorman Art Specialist Teacher
Art Exhibition Science
It was wonderful to see such an amazing turnout in the Science rooms for Open Night this year. Students and carers alike demonstrated perseverance and growth mindset galore as they participated in the three classroom activities; Plasticine Boat Making - how many marbles does
it take to sink the boat? Guess the Smell - 4 different scents in a container.
(Eucalyptus Oil, Vanilla Essence, Sardines, Garlic) How many drops of water can fit on a 5c coin? A huge thank you to everyone who visited on the evening! Ms Alderdice and Mrs Standley Science Specialist Teachers

Cohort Winners AVID Student Speaker Seizing Opportunities Every year, AVID Australia runs a Student Speaker competition for all Year 6-12 students in AVID schools. The winner receives an all expenses paid trip to Melbourne for themselves and a parent/guardian where they have the opportunity to deliver the student keynote speech at AVID’s Summer Institute, which is attended by hundreds of educators from across the country. This year’s theme was about seizing opportunities, which is made possible by developing the skills and growth mindset that AVID provides. We are very proud to announce that this year’s winner is our very own Rori Spaeth! Rori wrote and filmed a very heart felt speech about how she has embraced the opportunities that have come her way since attending Makybe. Congratulations Rori, we know you will be an inspiration to all of the teachers at Summer Institute this year.

Simple Addition in Kindy 2
This term, in Room 2, we have been learning about simple addition with numbers to 5. We have 5 friendly spiders that live on our classroom wall. Every morning we count them. When we are being well behaved and doing great work Mrs Hartley puts a spider in the web. If we get all the spiders in the web we get to do a special dance on the Interactive Whiteboard! Each time we put a spider in the web we do the addition sum to find all the ways to make 5!! Jo Hartley

Week 10 marks such an important week here at Makybe Rise. On Tuesday 24 September, we opened
our doors to all parents to display the incredible work students of Room 17 have created. It was great to
see the pride that all students showed when walking their parents and caregivers around, especially for
their final time at primary school. Here are some photos highlighting the success of everyone in the Room
17 community.
