Makybe Rise News

Hello Makybe Rise Families

Welcome to Term 2. The recent cool weather

has caught many of us by surprise and I have

noted that our standards for school uniform

have dropped a little. At Makybe, we apply

our high standards to everything that we do.

We do not have tracksuits, jeans, jeggings,

black or colourful items of clothing. Our

families to stop in.

I would like to thank Michael Fitzgerald of

innova2ve ways some families are making

their contribu2on to our school!

In 2017, all schools will be introducing a new

Principal’s Message

In Room 16 we love reading. This week we have been learning about making predic2ons. We

learnt how to use keywords to think about the story before we read the book. We inves2gated

how making predic2ons while we are reading helps us to understand the story. We also learnt

that we can reflect on what we think might happen next. We love reading to a buddy and

using the whisper phones. We have made Reading Buddy puppets. Our puppets will help us to

read fluently and with expression. We love reading Anh Do’s Weirdo books and can’t wait for

Ms Hornsby to buy Book 6. What is your favourite book?

Room 28 Me, Myself and I

This term in Room 28 we are learning all about ourselves as individuals, and how our differences

help to make our class the amazing place it is. We know that each of us is unique, and that ‘It’s OK

to be different.’ Our class has drawn ourselves as the unique people we are. Please come see our

display in the library!

Hundreds of Makybe students and their families came along to Term One’s

Movie Night - the first event celebra2ng the Parents Make Makybe (PMM)

ini2a2ve. The Movie Night marked the end of a very successful term for the

students, their families and all the staff at Makybe and celebrated the first

term of the PMM Passport. The introduc2on of the PMM Passport has seen

a huge increase in the involvement and par2cipa2on of our families in the

daily happenings at Makybe.

The Movie Night would not have been possible without the staff and

community members who volunteered their 2me in both the lead up to the

event and on the night - we thank you. We also greatly appreciated the

efforts of the staff of Virtue Security in helping the night run smoothly. To

those who came along and enjoyed the evening … we thank you too!!!

Thanks to all for making Makybe Magic!!!

This Term’s PMM Passports were sent home last week and planning for the

Term Two PMM Event is already underway … so let’s all keep working

together to build on the amazing momentum we had in Term One!!!

PMM Movie Night

Student Leadership Team It has been a busy few weeks for Makybe’s new 2016 Student Leadership Team. The Student Leadership Team is made up of Student

Leaders, Tribe Captains and Media Specialists from Years Five and Six. They met for the first 2me recently, discussing their ideas and goals

for 2016. All members of the Student Leadership Team will be officially presented with their badges in Week Three of Term Two.

The Student Leadership Team also recently met with representa2ves from the Rockingham City Council as part of the consulta2on

process for the Baldivis Outdoor Youth Space ini2a2ve. This ini2a2ve aims to develop an outdoor youth facility to cater for young people

in the Baldivis area. At the mee2ng the Leadership Team were asked to provide feedback on the elements of the project they felt were

most appropriate and beneficial to young people in Baldivis. Some of this year’s team were also involved in 2015. They have gained a

wonderful insight into how this project has evolved and have been able to experience the different phases of the planning process.

The Student Leadership Team will con2nue to be involved in the planning process of this project un2l its delivery - currently scheduled

for the end of 2016. This provides Makybe’s Student Leadership Team with a fantas2c insight into the workings of local council as well as

giving them the opportunity to be part of an ongoing project that will have a real outcome when finished that they and other young

people in Baldivis will be able to use and enjoy in years to come.

Welcome and well done to the 2016 Student Leadership Team!

Makybe Rise P&C Inc. News Welcome back to Term 2. Thanks so much to all who gave

their 2me to volunteer around the school and come to

mee2ngs last term, so great to see some new faces!

We are a team of volunteer parents who raise funds

towards improvements and items required by the school,

such as the Skoolbag App, book awards and our annual

Christmas party.

Since 2013 we have donated approximately $120,000 to our school. This includes

seMng up, staffing and running the canteen and installing air-condi2oning in our

undercover area. In 2016 we will be fundraising toward the installa2on of a nature

based playground. This would be a fantas2c addi2on to our school!

We hold general mee2ngs every term in Weeks 2 and 8 (4 May and 15 June in Term

2) at 6.30pm in the staff room. All are invited to aBend. It costs $1 to become a P&C

member and all paid members are en2tled to vote when any mo2ons are

forwarded. Membership forms can be found in the office and on the school

website. There is babysiMng available every mee2ng for $2 per child; booking is

essen2al.

There is no obliga2on to par2cipate or take on a commiBee posi2on if you come

along or join the P&C, it's simply an opportunity for any interested parents to sit in

and offers the chance to put forward sugges2ons and have input throughout the

year. New voices always bring new thinking and fresh ideas! If there is anyone who

would like to volunteer there are always a number of op2ons available (and you

don't have to join or aBend any mee2ngs in order to put your name down) for

example, helping for an hour in the canteen in the morning, helping out with raffles,

sausage sizzles, discos and other events throughout the year.

We are s2ll seeking a replacement for our Secretary Mel Larkin who has had to step

down. If you are interested in learning more about this role, please contact the P&C

at: [email protected] .

Upcoming Fundraising for Term 2

Fun Run - Tuesday, 17 May

Disco - Friday, 24 June

Fun Run informaon will go home in Week 2; it's our most popular event of the year,

we hope the kids have a great me!

Canteen: We'd like to extend many thanks for a generous dona2on received this

term from Michael Fitzgerald of Investor Logic. He is a local grandparent to one of

our students and they have Coeliac Disease, but with his dona2on it means we now

have equipment and utensils specifically to make safe gluten free food. As an

Allergy Aware school with gluten free items on the menu, this means that coeliac

students can now be included in ordering safe and delicious food made every week

right here in our own kitchen.

The canteen operates Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s and is 100% green. That

means everything we sell promotes healthy ea2ng choices for our children. Each

trading day our Canteen Manager purchases fresh fruit, vegetables, meats and

bread. We have a small kitchen garden and use products that the children and Carl

(our school gardener) help us grow.

Menus are available online when ordering, in the office and through the school

website: www.makyberiseps.wa.edu.au/parents-students/canteen/

If you are able to volunteer or have any queries about the canteen, whether it be

the menu or how to set up your account to use the Our Online Canteen website,

please pop in to see Ka2e and Laura, or email: [email protected] .

Walking School Bus: Our Walking School Bus has restarted and will con2nue to

operate from Gecko Park in Tuart Ridge. If you would like some more informa2on

about this service, please email Renee: [email protected] .

For any P&C enquiries, please

contact us via our Facebook

page or by email:

Makybe Rise Primary School

P&C Associa2on Inc.

Thank you!!!

The Makybe Library staff

would like to thank all

the Makybe families who

donated books to the

library as part of Term

One's PMM Passport

ini2a2ve. The Makybe Library collec2on has been

boosted by more than 100 books, with some of the new

addi2ons already being appreciated by students.

Also benefi2ng from these book dona2ons are our

Kindy and Pre-primary classes. The students in the

Kindy and Pre-primary classes are enjoying reading

through the new books in their classroom collec2ons.

This term the library is looking for volunteers to help

with book covering and shelving, so if you have

previous library experience or are a champion book

coverer, we would welcome any assistance you may be

able to offer.

Please contact Kylee in the library for more informa2on.
