MAINLANDS UNIT 2 TOWN CRIER OCTOBER 2020 1 PRESIDENT’S CORNER George Filiau, President, Unit 2 Homeowners Association (On behalf of your Homeowners Board) Well here we are again, another Fall Season and still battling the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding for the actions we were forced to implement to keep our residents and guests as safe as possible. I would like to thank Janet Mekeel for keeping our library operational during this period. Judging by the number of books being returned, a lot of residents took advantage of our extensive collection to occupy their time. Our Annual Homeowners Meeting will be on Tuesday, November 10 th , 2020. We are asking you, Designated Voters, to vote by proxy whenever possible as this meeting, most likely, will be virtual. We will supply the return postage on the return envelope for your convenience. You must make sure that your proxy is correctly completed. If it is not, it will not be counted. If your Designated Voter has changed, make sure you notify Faith Burgeson, Board Secretary. We are, at this time, considering opening the Clubhouse for voting only for those who wish to go there to vote. We will have directions posted in order to maintain social distancing. Our next planned HOA Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6 th , 2020. We will be voting on the 2021 Budget and any other business we may have at that time. SOCIAL CLUB NEWS DENIS CHENEL, PRESIDENT Hello everyone!!! I hope your summer was fairly normal in these strange times. The pandemic has certainly made us adjust our lives. With that in mind, I must inform you that we will be continuing the closure of our Clubhouse and the canceling of all Clubhouse activities until further notice. However, we will be sponsoring two outdoor events. Our first event will be a Golf Cart Parade (open to all units) to honor our veterans. I hope to make this an annual event, so let’s all get out there and honor the Vets for their service to our great country. The parade will be held on Wednesday, November 11 th . Line up for the parade will be at 5:30 p.m., and the parade will begin at 6 p.m. The route will be on Mainlands Blvd with a pass-through Unit 7. Masks and social distancing will be required to participate. Also, we request that political flags be left for another time, as this event is to honor our veterans. Our other event will be our Annual Christmas Parade (also opened to all units) to be held on Saturday, December 12 th , with golf-cart lineup starting at 5 p.m. and the parade beginning at 6 p.m. This also will be an outdoor event only with masks and social distancing required. Both events are being sponsored by the Social Club of Unit Two with Cathy Waldauer overseeing both events. She can be reached at (727) 460-1406 if you have any questions concerning either event. Also, you can reach me at (860) 218-0072. Be advised, if any changes occur concerning events being held inside the Clubhouse, I will let you know. Thank you for your understanding and STAY SAFE!!! It's that time of year again for the Annual Holiday Food Drive. Sacred Heart's “His Heart Society” Food Pantry needs non- perishable food items for distribution. There will be a mail tote on the table by the Clubhouse front door. If anyone needs a pickup, just call Peggy Farrington at (727) 578-0313. Your food donations are greatly appreciated. It may seem to YOU that the summer was dull and boring with the COVID-19 restrictions, but for those of you that were moving, it was busy. By now, you may have met the new move-ins and are beginning a special friendship. Hopefully, those of you that have moved into Unit 2, feel welcome and are happy you have made the decision to join our ‘family’.

June: Maureen Mayville moved in at 4263 - 96th Avenue. Elizabeth Nodland and Donald Springer are making their home at 4462 – 101st Avenue.

July: Charlotte Smith and Butch Houf made 9798 – 41st St their home. Cyndi Rue is getting settled in her new home at 9663 – 41st Way. Joel Olsen established residence at 9552 – 42nd Way. A Packer Fan, BTW.

August: Tamara Kovacs came on board at 10142 – 44th Way. Kelly Collins is probably still unpacking boxes at 9639 – 41st St.

September/October: Lorraine Ostrowski will be moving to 4145 – 96th Terrace. Peter and Kathleen Tremblay are preparing to move to 4142 – 100th Avenue.

Although it’s great to have new people moving into our community, it means that we have said “Good-bye” to those that moved out. They will be missed. Let’s put our ‘best foot forward’ to welcome our new neighbors. Please take the extra minute to meet and greet these folks somehow to make them feel welcome. This pandemic won’t last forever. I have that on good authority.

************************************************************************************************** NEW 2020/2021 YELLOW BOOK PHONE DIRECTORY

Most of you, I hope, have received your new Yellow Book Phone Directory with this issue of the TOWN CRIER. If you did not receive it, please let me know and I will see to it you get a copy. The same goes for those that are not here – please call me when you’re back in your Mainlands Home. Unfortunately, some of you may not have gotten your name in this directory. Some moved in too late to have their name included in this directory. We will make sure you get in next time. Hopefully, your entry is correct. Be sure to let me know what changes need to be made for the next publishing…which will be in 2021. Thank you. Fay……….

[email protected]

The first notice of the Homeowners Annual Meeting has been sent. If you did not receive one, please let me know. Some of the addresses we have may not be current for those that leave for the summer months. The voting begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 10th, 2020, at 7 p.m. at the Unit Two Clubhouse. The meeting may be held VIRTUALLY, if current health guidelines remain in effect.

Phone: 1 (646) 749-3122 Access Code: 697-256-701 (in the USA) The purpose for the meeting is to elect three (3) directors, vote on the 2021 Annual Budget, and conduct such other business as may be lawfully specified on the agenda. For those that are not voting by proxy - We are planning to set up the Clubhouse to enable voting. Instructions for "Distancing" will be posted. Homeowners that would like to run for the Board of Directors, please call or e-mail me (number and email above) on or before October 1st, 2020. The second notice of the Homeowners Annual Meeting will be emailed or delivered by October 27th. Give it a week and, if you did not receive one, please let me know. This is an important mailing as it deals with business items that require your vote, especially if we will be ‘attending’ a VIRTUAL Meeting. This mailing contains the proxy and ballot that you will want to execute and return. As a Homeowner this is the time to exercise your right as a Designated Voter to vote. Please make sure the Designated Owner for your property is current. If you do not remember, please call or email me. All of us should want to serve on the Board at some point. It’s a great experience to represent the residents at Mainlands Unit 2. Give it some thought. It’s about time that we begin working on a new activity. Perhaps this is something you too might find of interest. Christmas is still coming on December 25th. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a big tree outside that we can decorate and make a very special event for our Unit 2? Okay, we would have to wear our masks and keep a safe distance from each other. But it would be a blessing just to be able to see our friends and neighbors once again. Now comes the “Big Question” – Are there any of you out there who would like to help with this activity? If so, please call Phyllis Wisehoon (727) 577-1762 and we will start the ball rolling. It will be fun for all and we will probably have refreshments too, with Christmas music in the background. Date to be determined by the committee. Please help – you will be glad you did!

************************************************************************************************** Silver Santa’s Annual Charity Project will continue in 2020 in spite of the COVID-19 virus. These seniors still need our help with items to make their holidays a little brighter. Beginning in October, we will be collecting the following items in the Clubhouse. There will be a box at the entrance to the right on a table. If you do not want to enter the Clubhouse, please call Jim Schimpf at (727) 515-8636 and he will meet you at the front entrance. The items needed are as follows: Clothing (NEW) Size L & XL – socks, sweatpants/tops, pajamas, t-shirts Blankets (Lap) Puzzles, puzzle books, books, etc. Toiletries: shampoo/conditioner, hand/body lotion, toothpaste/brushes, mouth wash, bath

wash, razors, shaving cream, etc. Deadline will be Friday November 27th. Don’t forget if you need help or have questions regarding Senior living, contact Frank Pascoe at (727)-215-5348. Thanks for your generosity. Liz Schimpf

Cruise Night – Sorry this did not make our last newsletter – just wanted to make the note that it was a good thing we held Cruise night in February and missed the Corona Virus quarantine or we would all still be in the clubhouse riding out the virus!!!! Our cruise began with a prayer from the Ship’s Chaplain Paul

Elmore. Cruise Director, Liz Schimpf outlined the evening’s activities, and explained the procedure if everyone heard the sounds of the ship’s horn (provided by Captain Jim Schimpf). A cruise would not be complete without a Muster Drill and, thanks to Alan/Cathy Waldauer; Denis/Peggy Chenel and Pete Whyte & Peggy Bartolotta for demonstrating the proper safety procedures. This enabled us to leave port on time!! The evening was fun – with good food and entertainment. Al Ruggerio always makes the evening a success and brings us new friends from the other units. He sang the Love Boat Song and omitted the tune from Titanic!! Many thanks to those who helped make this night a success: Chris Eichinger and Nancy Hemeon for preparing the seating list – task no one likes to tackle! Chris helped make all those changes as the event matured. Chris Eichinger and Marlys Bradford for helping with the check-in process and Sharon Coffey for registering the luggage contestants and her donation for the door prize. Margie Malone who listened to my suggestions for decorations and made it happen and the decorating crew: Peggy Kerrigan, Marlys/Steve Bradford, George/Rachel Filiau and Denis Chenel; Food crew: Peggy Kerrigan, Marianne Mileno, and AnnMarie Astuto for preparing and serving the food and Peggy Chenel and Marianne for baking the desserts (What a sweet treat it was). Gaming crew: Margie Malone, Jack Lossa, Denis Chenel and George/Rachel Filiau, Jerry Smith for selling the chips and thanks to Bob Arsenault for sharing his experience in this area. Clean up crew: Boni/Paul Elmore, Denis/Peggy Chenel, Steve/Marlys Bradford, Peggy/Jim Kerrigan, Marianne Mileno, AnnMarie Astuto and Marge Malone and many more. For the 50/50 masters: Jim Schimpf & Steve Bradford. We had 7 contestants and each showed their creative talents with the decorations on their suitcases. Luggage Winners: 1st Place Chris Eichinger 2nd Place: Alan Waldauer - Door Prize Winner: Jack Lossa - But the real reason for this event being such a success is YOU- for supporting our event and attending. THANK YOU!
