BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Dot Muller, Secretary

Your homeowner’s board wishes all a happy and safe summer. Your board will be taking vacation also. Your next homeowner’s meeting will be held on September 19th, 2017 at 9 AM in the Unit 1 clubhouse. Meeting Notes: President's report: Skip Duffield informed the homeowners that the next Homeowners’ Board meeting will take place in September 2017. He told homeowners that at the Master Association meeting there were two men from Pinellas Planning Committee who brought everyone up to date as to what work is planned for roads in the near future. They proposed expanding the Gandy/Park overpass on US 19 to 6 instead of 4 lanes. By 2045 we can expect a light on the intersection of US 19 and Gateway Center. Donna Massey informed all that just north of Gateway Center road, a developer is planning 270 luxury condos emptying onto US19 going north, and rumor has it that over where the Buick dealership used to be there will be shops and more condos. The subject of gates was briefly discussed to control nonresident traffic. The management office will commence property checks for overgrown weeds, trees not trimmed, and general cleanup of properties the week of April 24th. Secretary's report: Dot Muller reported that towing will resume on May 1st. Homeowners are permitted to hold individual yard sales per guidelines. This was voted OK by the board at the

January 2017 meeting. . Treasurer's report: Pat Jones told home owners that they can obtain a copy of the financials from the Management office. COMMITTEE REPORTS Roofs: Barry Matthews reported that during April 2017 there have been three tile roofs replaced and three roofs repaired. Three flat roofs were replaced, and three flat roofs repaired, and one roof Silver Coated. Total cost of roofing to date is $86,442. Painting: In Joan’s absence, Skip reported that painting will commence in 2018. Clubhouse and recreation area: Kay McAleer informed homeowners that the pool gates are now “Self-locking” as required by our insurance company. Kay asked all to make sure that both inside and outside doors are locked when the last person leaves the clubhouse. A couple was discovered sleeping in the ladies restroom the other night. If you see strangers please call Pinellas Park Police. Lawns: Paul Scheele reported that our lawns are looking ill. Spraying for weeds will begin shortly. Watering of lawns will be increased to 30 minutes twice a week. If your are having sprinkler problems call the Maintenance office first. If you get no response, then call Paul. Reminders: Overnight Parking: Towing of vehicles parked on the street at night will resume on May 1st.

Parking of vehicles at the far end of the clubhouse lot is not a permanent fix for your vehicles that cannot be parked in your driveway or in the garage overnight. Your out of town company needs to have a “Visitor Pass” which is only good for a two (2) week period and this is only a one time issuance.

BITS & PIECES:

Barry Matthews, Editor Starting with the April 18th Home Owners Board meeting, the minutes of the HOA Meetings will be posted in our Unit 1 Clubhouse and on our Community Web Page, www.TheMainlands.com. If you are unable to attend the meeting, or just want to read what transpired during the meeting, please go to either of these places to see and read the minutes. A summary of the meeting is also in the Journal under the article titled “BOARD OF DIRECTORS”.

There has been an increase in “shady” people walking the streets in Mainlands. Recently, two people were found sleeping in Unit 1’s ladies’ room late at night. When using the outside doors to the Clubhouse, please be sure the doors are closed and locked. Social Club:

Kay McAleer – President

Thirty-four members were present for the Social Club business meeting on April 11th. The following Officers for the coming year were introduced: Kay McAleer, President; Ed Potter, 1st Vice President; Linda Fry, 2nd Vice President; Janet Osgood, Secretary; and Sherry Cooper, Treasurer. Donna Crabtree and Hazel Hudson also serve on the Board. Following the business meeting, members enjoyed a presentation by the Pinellas Park Police K-9 Unit. We were told how new police dogs are selected, and about the intense training given to both the dog and police officer. When “off duty” the police dog becomes the family pet, and when it’s time to retire, the dog continues to live with his police handler. We watched the K-9 catch the “bad guy” (another K-9 police officer), and saw how the two K-9 dogs interacted with each other. Everyone was given the opportunity to meet and pet the two K-9 dogs. On March 26th, 73 people attended a Volunteer Appreciation dinner. Invitations were sent to 79 volunteers recognized by the Social Club, Women’s Club, Men’s Club, Bingo, Library and the Newsletter. Congratulations to Fred and Marge Carpenter who were named

Our next Social Club meeting will be May 9th at 7 p.m. Suzanne Boisvert, Emergency Management Planner for the City of Pinellas Park, will discuss hurricane preparedness. I heard from the Women’s Club that one of their members, Eve Bailey, is not feeling real well.

A Card, Letter, Phone Call, or Visit might help to get her feeling better.

Thanks for making someone’s day a little brighter.

WOMEN’S CLUB:

Tami Scheele, President Hello from the Women’s Club! We had a very productive club meeting on Wednesday April 5th. It started out with a program presented by Kayla Jacobson, the community liaison from the Vincent House along with two others, Tina and Dawn. The Vincent House was one of our last year’s charity recipients and we found that many of our club members were not familiar with it. Vincent House is for members with mental illnesses and they help the members to re-enter society with job training and assistance. We were told that the members run the facility with assistance from the staff. This includes answering the phones, creating the marketing material in the graphic arts department, and cooking the food. Members get temporary jobs in the community to gain experience and then are assisted in finding permanent employment. Up and Coming Events: We may be scheduling a tour of the Vincent House & the Recycling Center for this fall when our seasonal members return. It was decided that after the summer break we will be going to the Dinner Theater. Tickets will be approximately $36 per person. Our May meeting, on Wednesday the 3rd at 9:30am, will be a Clothing Drive. Anyone who has clothes to donate that can be helpful to women entering the work force will be greatly appreciated. Memorial Day Dinner will be May 29th, tickets are $12. The signup sheet for setup, clean-up, and serving will be on the bulletin board in the club house.

NO Women’s Club Meeting for the months of July or August The Ice Cream Social will be August 20th

The September 9th Pot Luck Dinner and Fashion Show will feature Bonworth Clothing. We will be having a Chili Cook Off and Bake Contest in Jan 2018. We hope to see all of our women club members at our next meeting, and if you are not a member but would like to know more about our club, you are welcome to come by to any of our meetings as a guest.
