The author I am studying is Ann M Martin. Martin was born on August 12, 1955. She was born in Princeton, New Jersey during hurricane

Connie. Her parents let her have a lot of pets like

hamsters, mice, turtles, guinea pigs and fish. One of Ann’s favorite childhood memories is watching The Wizard of OZ on her friend’s color television set. Ann loved, and still loves today, the “I Love Lucy

Show”. She went to Smith College. Ann now lives in the Hudson Valley in upstate New York with her dog Sadie, and her cats, Gussie, Pippin

and Woody. Ann is single.Some of Ann’s favorite authors when she was little were Lewis Carroll, P.L.Travers, Hugh Lofting, Astrid

Lingren and Roald Dahl. They inspired her to become a writer. She writes children’s and Young

Adult Literature books.Ann has won a lot of awards. Some of those awards

are the Newberry Honor Award, the Kentucky Bluegrass Award and the Child Magazine’s Best book

of the year award.

The theme of the book is even though you are sad, good things can happen. Especially when you have someone who loves you.

Overview:

The book about is 2 girls trying to get through their life without their parents while living with their

grandma Min. They saw Olivia again. Flora and Ruby met Olivia

when their parents were alive. While living with Min they meet Mary,

Lydia, Nikki and Robby.

Problem and Solution:

The problem in the book is Flora and Ruby’s parents die and they have to live with their grandma Min in Camden Falls. The solution is they go to live with Min and try to stay busy so this keeps their

mind off their parents.

Setting and Point of View:

The story takes place in the back seat of Min’s car. A narrator is telling the story. Flora, Olivia and Ruby help in their grandma’s

shop. Olivia is mostly organizing buttons or other things in the store while Flora sews and Ruby runs errands.

Flora likes to sew. • Ruby likes to tap dance.

• Min is patient and is calm. Her name is Mindy. She got the name min from flora because she always use to say in a minute. Min loves flora and ruby

very much. • Olivia is organized and a little bossy.

• Mary likes sitting outside Mins and Olivia Grandma’s shop. she works at min’s and Olivia’s

grandmas shop mending things. She’s nice but kids call her scary Mary because they think she has a

kid living in her basement. • Lydia was a nice sweet girl until she started to

shoplift. • Nikki likes to draw.

• Robby has Downs Syndrome and is always happy.
