EditorialDear Reader,

With the ever changing global economic climate, the investment scenario in the state has constantly evolved over the course of last year. Therefore, it becomes imperative for us to enable a prospective investor with a perspective on how to do business in the state and ease his/her requirements for making a suitable business decision. For the purpose of investor assistance MIDC has developed and has been regularly updating a 'Knowledge Kit' covering various facets of the industrial ecosystem in the State, the latest rendition of the kit has been put up on our website, www.midcindia.org. I would suggest you to visit the same.

In this edition of MahaConnect, we have included a district profile for Nashik — popularly known as the Wine Capital of the State, an industrial estate profile for Vile Bhagad, an update on the CETPs present in MIDC areas and important upcoming events in the state.

We hope that these articles are informative and help you in giving a perspective for your business strategies.

For any feedback or query, please write back to us at [email protected]. Also, visit our website www.midcindia.org

MIDC

Below is a short snapshot on the development of CETPs in the MIDC regions. The snapshot is divided in to three segments — the CETPs commissioned, CETPs under expansion and the CETPs planned

3rd Global Economic Summit 2013, Mumbai

Events

The All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and World Trade Centre (WTC) will host the 3rd Global Economic Summit 2013 centered on the theme ‘Clusters In One World, Perspectives From Many Nations’. The global leaders and cluster experts who have changed the face of clusters through innovation in the new economic era and learn the best practices from prominent dignitaries who will be present during the summit.

The event will see various renowned experts such as Mr. Ifor Ffowcs-Williams, CEO, Cluster Navigators Ltd., New Zealand and Dr. Lars K. Eklund, PhD, Founder & Chairman, Scandinavian Competitiveness Group AB Ltd., Sweden conduct workshops on the evolution of clusters through innovation and technological advancement and how strategic collaborations can facilitate product improvisation to meet with the global standards.

Dr. Lars K. Eklund, PhD, Founder & Chairman, Scandinavian Competitiveness Group AB Ltd., Sweden, said, “Cluster development is spreading fast across all parts of the world. It is recognized that clustering is a key condition for innovation and competitiveness. Smooth collaboration is needed but also smart competition. So far the regular approach is public financing and public management of regional and national programmes. I will propose a new approach based on private financing and private management. This scheme is inspired by many years of my personal experiences of the most successful public competition programmes in the Scandinavian countries as well as the quite different kind of private community setup practiced in the United States and, to some extent, in other places.”

Another interesting session will be addressed by Mr. Madhav Lal, Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of India, Mr. K.H. Muniyappa, Minister of State, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of India and Ms. Cathy Berx, Governor of Antwerp, where the experts will share their views and present strategies for capacity building, regional growth, employment generation and technological up gradation to understand the relevance of clusters in the new economic era. Mr. Vincent Palmade, Lead Economist, South Asia Region, World Bank, Dr. Lars Eklund, Founder, Scandinavian Competitiveness Group, Sweden and Ms. Radhika Rastogi, Development Commissioner, Department of Industries, Government of Maharashtra, India will provide an insight into the strategies of successful clusters.

My Dear Bhushan,

I had an occasion to glance through the latest (August,13) issue of MahaConnect. It was not only informative but also interesting. I realized that I did not know many things even around Thane as were brought out in the issue.

I feel, MahaConnect effectively explains and propagates the status of infrastructure we offer for industry community.
