MSA Science Fair 2011
On Saturday March 26, 2011 was the 3rd Annual Magnolia Public Schools
Science Fair at MSA-8 in Bell. From MSA-4, Annie Titan, Jasmine Unter-
burger, Jordan Unterburger, Lizbeth Crispin, Dorthy Schmidt, Jade Maddox,
Michelle Mercado, and Janelle Dromgoole all participated. Alexas, Made-
line, Mr. Sahin and his son, Ms. Daco, Mr. Deniz, and Mr. Smith all came
out to support us.
Over 100 projects were displayed at the fair. The project categories were:
Biology, Ecology, Physics, and Chemistry. We presented our projects to 3
judges each. Before the exciting moment of who actually won, there was a Science Show presented by Rocket
Robbie from Mad Science.
During the Science Fair, the Ping Pong tournament was also going on. After the Science Show, we got to
watch the final ping pong game. It was very exciting. A student from MSA-Santa Clara won 1st Place.
Many guest speakers we there, and there were many different awards given out. In the end, Jasmine Unter-
buger got 2nd Place in the category of Physics for her project: Liquid Muscle,. Annie Titan got 2nd Place in
the competive category Biology for her project: Can Your Body Temperature Tell the Time of Day? Janelle
Dromgoole was awarded an honorable mention in Biology for her project involving teen stress, and Jordan
Unterburger got 2nd Place in the Ecology category for his project: Atmos-FIRE.
At the end of the day, we all went home feeling very accomplished. We represented our school, and did very
well, even if not all of us went home with a medal. It was a wonderful experience, and we all had a very en-
joyable time.
On Friday, April 15th Magnolia Science Academy 4 held
its first annual Student Art Fair. Students were excited to
see their work up on display. This was an opportunity for
the students to show off their talent and individuality while
taking part in a school community building event. Thank
you to the wonderful parent volunteers who helped make
the Art Fair such a success.

Eagles Basketball
Updates
The year is almost over and the Soaring Eagles have racked up the
wins in our first year as a part of the West Los Angeles Charter
School League. Our school’s athletic teams have a combined record
of 23-5-1 and have three championships under their belts. We had
great volleyball, football, and soccer seasons and as the NBA play-
offs are in full swing, we begin what might be our strongest sport yet,
Basketball. The season began this past Tuesday April 26th with a
dominating performance over Larchmont Charter School. The pace of
the game was frantic and the crowd was as loud as an NBA arena.
The Eagles began a little shaky with what seemed to be first game
jitters but that was soon to be replaced by energy, excitement, and
scoring; and boy was there scoring! The Eagles poured it on to the tune of 70-8! Jachai Salam led all scores
with 18 points but as the score indicates scoring came from all over the Eagles roster. The rest of our games
will take place mostly on Friday’s at the Larchmont Charter School gym except for one Tuesday game which
will be held at LCS and the championship game, which will be held at the Boys and Girls Club of Venice. We
urge you to make the drive and come support our student-athletes. Go Eagles!

Six Flags Trip
Updates
On April 18, 2011 Mr. Deniz and Mr. Smith took a group of students to the
best theme park in the whole world also know as Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Immediately after arriving at the park we ran in and started on the rides. And I
have to say that we literally went on all the rides and believe me it was very
very fun. For me it was my first time a Six Flags and it was great. And surpri-
singly at the end of all the rides none of us threw up and some of us ate a lot
before going on the rides. Some people might say that Six Flags is a rollercoas-
ter rider’s paradise or rollercoaster heaven or nirvana. We all had a very great time and it was lots of fun.
