A STUDY OF CONTEXT AND CONNECTIONFALL 2012: 5th Year ArchitectureLOCATION: Boston, MAPROFESSOR: Cal LewisDURATION: 16 weeksPROJECT TEAM: Maggie Dougherty, Sean Leintz, Sunny Du

ARCHITECTURE OVERVIEW: With a pier site in Boston’s celebrated North End, the Waterfront Symphony Center expands its audience by encompassing community space directly connected to the harbor. The building maintains both an urban context and a neighborhood park with its geometry. The experimental hall can open up to the pier and double its capacity through the outdoor amphitheater. The main hall holds 1200 with stadium and dining seating, all with a view to the water. This view exemplifi es the hierarchy of circulation that each component of the project shares.

Revitalization of Via dei Fori ImperialiA STUDY OF HARMONIZING THE PRESENT TO THE PASTSPRING 2011: 4th Year ArchitectureLOCATION: Rome, ItalyPROFESSOR: Cal LewisDURATION: 4 weeksPROJECT TEAM: Maggie Dougherty, Sarah Bruketta, Alexandra Ruiz

ARCHITECTURE OVERVIEW: Our program, the Wall of Voices, connects a traditionally tourist area to native Romans through private recording stations in a public environment. The design consists of a waterfall wall that curves at the top on the reverse side to capture the sound of an individual. The structure provides a public water feature in the front and private recording and listening stations in the back. These stations are for listening to the oral history of Via dei Fori Imperiali and recording thoughts and events that can be heard viasocial media in the present.

A STUDY OF RHYTHM AND CIRCULATONFALL 2011: 4th Year ArchitectureLOCATION: Columbus, INPROFESSOR: Greg PalermoDURATION: 12 weeksINDIVIDUAL PROJECT

ARCHITECTURE OVERVIEW: The Columbus Museum of Innovation is a place that refl ects the town’s historic character by nodding to its surroundings yet withstanding a modern appeal. The building is constructed in an all timber frame with glass and wood paneling infi ll. Once inside, the light materials and open central space act as a community pavilion linking visitors to the shop, café, offi ces, and exhibitions. Longitudinal axes on both the fi rst and second level work as streetscapes as well as the main circulation through the building. This allows for the legacy of the city to be exhibited while the main street itself is on display.

A STUDY OF THE EVOLUTION OF FORM AND FUNCTIONSPRING 2012: 4th Year ArchitectureLOCATION: Rome, ItalyPROFESSOR: Cal LewisDURATION: 4 weeksMEDIUM: Graphite, Ebony pencils

From ceremonial uses to drying clothes, balconies originated in Italy quickly becoming a vital part of everyday life. I believe they capture the character of Italian architecture that was built through balancing form and function.
