Magazines that have Inspired Me

I am going to create a magazine based on the genre of punk pop, and after researching into Kerrang! I have decided that this is the style that I wouldlike to create my magazine similar to.Kerrang! magazine uses a rock genre to aim at a young Niche audience. It is based in the UK and owned by Bauer Media Company. It was first published in 1981 and was supposed to be a one off magazine but was a great success and in the early 2000s it became the number one UK bestselling newspaper. Kerrang! has a very unusual name and uses onomatopoeia words of a guitar and so makes it unusual.Kerrang! magazine typically targets fans of rock music and uses artistes that produce this type of music. I like the way that the Kerrang! front page is cluttered and so it looks like there is a lot going on, as wellas a mixture of font and images being on the double page spread. I like the way the logo on the page is unique and soI will make the masthead of my magazine original, for example, Kerrang! use a specific font type and colour to make it well known and immediately recognisable, as well as being different from any other magazine.

I like the way NME magazine features images which are slightly faded to make them look old fashioned as well as bold writing to text stand out clearly. I like the waythe pages are image dominated I also want to target my magazine to young people ages between 15-25 as this would be the audience that I would know most about and so would be able to produce a magazine which would be most suitable to them, and NME appeals to both sexes and so is a good magazine and inspires me to use unisex themes.http://heathenmedia.co.uk/jadams/files/2013/02/url-7.jpeg

Kerrang! and NME magazine often includes a band on their front cover, where as I want to include an individual photograph as I think this makes it more personal for the audience, and the audience also take in the artistes features, instead of having to look at multiple people on the page. Even if I choose to have a band as my main feature, I will include just one member on my front cover.http://heathenmedia.co.uk/ewint/files/2013/02/cheryl_tweedy_q_magazine.jpg
