PRESIDENT’S REPORT To all Players past & present, Families, Members & Life Members, Reflecting on the past 4 years of involvement with the Macleod JFC committee, 2019 was a season where we will be able to look back on our achievements, feeling proud that what we have been trying to achieve as a club is starting to come together. Sporting clubs are measured by both their on-field and off-field performance. Having grown player numbers year on year, added 2 girls teams, and created sustainable structures across our admin functions, we have now also reached greater on-field success. This year saw 4 teams play in Grand Finals, with 3 Premierships, and a narrow loss. We fielded a total of 13 teams (U8 x 2, U9 x 2, U10, U11 x 2, U12 Girls, U12, U13 Girls, U13, U14 and Colts), with 3 teams playing finals. Congratulations to the under 10 Green, under 11 Red, and under 13 Black teams for each winning their respective YJFL Grand Finals. Our under 12 Blue team also reached the Grand Final following a strong season. On behalf of Macleod JFC, we thank Parade / St Damians Junior Football Club for their cooperation in bringing together a merged Colts team, ensuring we were able to form a full side. This was largely due to the efforts of Paul Skaife, Dom DiCesare, and Richard Crockford, working closely with an opposition club who shared a common goal of wanting juniors to play football. Having seen the boys work together during the year, and attending the combined presentation night at season’s end, the merger could only be viewed as a resounding success. With many of the team moving out of junior football next season, I wish them all the very best in their future endeavours - football and otherwise. Another highlight of the 2019 season was the addition of a second girls team. With the appointment of our first Girls Coordinator in 2019, we set a goal of growing female participation. Creating a brand new team takes significant effort, and it was pleasing to see the motivation from the players themselves to build and grow the team. While they suffered some significant early defeats, not once did this deter the players and coaches. Instead, players numbers grew, and with that came small on-field successes - such as their first score, first goal, and by round 6, first win! Female football at our club, remains a focus into the future, and we have begun discussions with Banyule Council regarding upgrades to Macleod Park to be more accomodating for female players. Having replaced the sliding divider wall in the main change room this year, it is clear more needs to be done to improve our facilities for all players, and I trust this will be a focus of the committee in coming years. We also faced additional work this year away from football in dealing with stakeholders involved with the North East Link Project. The current project plan lists Winsor Reserve as a required location throughout the construction period. With the prospect of losing this ground from the end of the 2021 season, work is already underway to secure an alternate facility. While this move is almost certainly unavoidable, it does present an opportunity for the club to consider our longer term development, and ensure we can align this to local infrastructure development where possible. Winsor Reserve continued to be a much utilised venue through 2019, with regular training sessions and games held at the ground. We invested in a new defibrillator for the venue during the year after the existing one was stolen during a break-in. It was unfortunate this took significant funds away from the club, however, the wellbeing of players and spectators at both

grounds remains our top priority. With the poor condition of the playing surface late in the season at Macleod Park, the great condition of Winsor was a welcome relief for finals training late in the year. Thanks to Carl Thompson and Brian McNamara for their efforts maintaining both venues. 2019 was another fun year on the social calendar, with the club running a Ladies Night, Dads & Mates Night, Whiskey Tasting, and 4 Family Nights. We ended the season with our annual “Thanks Night” at Rosanna Bowls Club, taking the opportunity to thank club coaches, volunteers, team managers, committee, and sponsors. We also awarded the annual Beever Family Award, which was presented to Paul Skaife for his years of dedication to both Auskick and junior football at Macleod JFC. Macleod JFC relies on the support of local businesses to operate and we wish to thank the following sponsors for their support in 2019:

• Miles Real Estate • Bendigo Bank • Viewbank Early Childhood Center • General Chicken Co • Cannon Toyota • The Truss People • Macleod Cellars • Ivanhoe Copy Center • Modern Truck & Trailer Repairs • Bean Around Espresso

Finally, at the completion of my 3rd year as club President, thank you to all the players and families who have made this such an enjoyable year. While it’s not been without it’s challenges, it truly is the wonderful people around the club that make Macleod JFC such a great club to be involved with. I also thank my family for the support and understanding they give to me when this role takes me away from other activities. The balancing act is always challenging, and would be much harder without their support. I exit 2019 confident that the club is in a great position, and I look forward to seeing what the next year brings. Go Eagles! Paul Starmans MJFC President

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT What an amazing year at the Club! In my first year as Vice President, it has been a rather steep learning curve. I’ve learnt so much about what it takes to run a junior football club and how the volunteers that donate their time keep it going. Without these generous individuals the kids would never get on the field. 2019 has also had external challenges on the club that has focused on the impact the North East Link may have on the club. We have been working on trying to ensure the best result for the club in the future and the least impact on our players. Numerous meetings have taken place with the Banyule Council, the NELP representatives and the Macleod Cricket Club. Hopefully the result will provide the best possible outcome for the club. Last year the club had its first girls team. The team did great and we endeavored this year to expand our level of girls involvement. To assist this process a Girls Coordinator role was created. I was lucky enough to acquire this role and Mark Medley (the previous years girls coach) and myself began our quest for more girls to play. The first training session was a huge success and we had many more girls turn up than we had the previous year. The idea of an under 14s girls team started to form and the girls themselves became involved in the recruitment of players. A coach was 'signed on' (thank you so much Luke Brabender) and both teams began their journey. The U14 girls started the season a little shaky, but their sheer determination and willingness to put in the extra yards paid off and the team went from strength to strength. An extra training session was offered to the girls and they came along rain or shine to improve their game with excellent ball handling skills training provided by Dom DiCesare and Tom Barca. The U12 girls team had a good season and with the extra players that were picked up were able to field a full team, sometimes with a bench as well. Mark coached them to their share of wins and many girls kicked their first goals and lots of new friends were made along the way. The club had its first girl nominated for the YJFL Best and Fairest award in Olivia Nutbean from the U12 team. She made us super proud with a 3rd place in her whole division. Watch this space AFLW!! A big thanks to the boys teams for supporting our girls. In the first home match the boys lined up outside the change rooms and cheered the girls onto the field. Often the boys would come watch the girls play and vice versa. Also thanks to the two team managers in Lorna and Michelle for all their help and work this year. They have been tireless in getting the girls organised and without them the teams can't function. They built a strong parent group, who will definitely miss the social aspect of the teams in the off season. The two Trainers in Bryan and Jamie, were fantastic to offer their time to get trained up and were there in the coaches box every week cheering the girls on. And to Anna and Ben, thanks again and hope to see you guys next year. During the start of the season we had an AFLW player, Harriet Cordner from the Melbourne Football club, come train with the girls and later on in the year we had Will Taylor from Smash FM come interview the girls about women’s footy and their year with the club. I’m super proud of all the girls and their year of development at Macleod. It has been my pleasure to watch them grow as both a team and as individuals. They have all worked so hard and we hope to see them all back at the Nest next season. Prue Waters Vice President & Girls Coordinator

SECRETARY’S REPORT The 2018 AGM saw a turnout of 22 interested parties with all executive positions filled uncontested, 6 general committee positions filled and 3 remaining unfilled. Remaining committee positions were filled within the first monthly meeting in November and It was pleasing to see the team launch into 2019 with renewed enthusiasm and different perspectives. The work of a secretary starts well before the season begins. There are grounds and pavilions to secure, public liability insurance, team submissions, YJFL engagement of yearly procedures and rule changes, renewals of liquor and food licenses to name a few. The clubs sign up day in February was well attended and with multiple helpers, queues were substantially smaller than previous years. For 2019, we fielded 13 teams, up one team on the previous year. We have a number of compliance requirements with respect to YJFL stipulate the mandatory usage of an online compliance tool Everproof that allows full visibility of every club’s accreditation levels. Roles with accreditation requirements included: Coach, Assistant Coach, Trainer Up to Under 12, Trainer Under 13 & up, President, Vice President, Secretary, Team Manager, Runner and Canteen Supervisor. This requires that over 50 volunteers undertaking these roles have Everproof accounts and their accreditations, such as Working with Children Check, First Aid, CPR, Coaching and Code of Conduct, saved within the system. I am pleased to report, with assistance from all volunteers concerned, that MJFC achieved an outstanding result of 97% organisational compliance in 2018.

Of particular importance is the Code of Conduct that embodies our club’s values. We strive to ensure that all players gain equal playing time, maximise participation, learning and enjoyment regardless of ability. We strive to at all times display and teach appropriate sporting behaviour, ensuring that players understand and practice fair play. We strive to ensure that players are involved in a positive environment where skill-learning and development are prioritized and not overshadowed by a desire to win. We strive to display and foster respect for umpires, opponents, coaches, administrators, other officials, parents and spectators. At times, we have fallen short of these values, however the executive committee are committed to taking action to correct and ensure continual improvement.

An unfortunate consequence of playing a contact sport is that sometimes players suffer injuries with the potential for significant medical costs. The committee once again took the decision to take out Platinum level insurance above the normal YJFL basic cover allowing 90% of all non-Medicare costs reimbursed up to a max of $7,500. The announcement of the North East Link tollway though our community comes at a cost to the club from 2021 with the project announcing that it will require the use of Winsor Reserve for up to 7 years. Significant work has been undertaken by the committee assessing the impact, understanding the proposed workarounds and formulating an alternative solution. The club’s formal response and public hearing presentation can be found on the North East Link project website. The committee thanks Craig Dodson for his guidance and assistance on this matter. I thank Cherie Hazelman for her assistance in various secretarial activities throughout the year including arranging medals and end of year trophies. Shane Hocking Secretary

FOOTBALL DEPARTMENT REPORT 2019 was a very rewarding year for Macleod JFC and I would like to extend a big thankyou to all those wonderful people who volunteered their time and effort. Many milestones were reached during the season, starting with the club documenting it’s player / coach development and participation policy for all teams from U8 through to Colts. A special thankyou is extended to Cherie Hazelman for her tremendous effort and contribution to finalising such an important document. Since taking on the role of Football and Coaching in 2016, a tremendous amount of effort and strategic planning has occurred to ensure that the Macleod JFC grows and prospers into the leading football club in our area whilst simultaneously developing great individuals and contributors to our community. The YJFL acknowledges and respects the work and effort achieved by all of us at Macleod JFC and has complimented us again on the outstanding behaviour and conduct of all our players, families and spectators during 2019. Our Auskick participation levels have again been outstanding thanks to the selfless efforts of Tom Barca and his Team. We fielded 13 teams in 2019, consisting of: Boys U8 x 2, U9 x 2, U10 x 1, U11 x 2, U12 x 1, U13 x 1, U14 x 1 and Colts Girls U12 x 1 and U14 x 1 It is with the greatest pleasure and satisfaction that in season 2020, Macleod JFC will have teams in every boys age group whilst also increasing the number of girls teams. Two rounds of practice matches for U10 teams through to Colts were again organised this year and planning has already commenced for at least 2 practice matches for each team in season 2020 prior to the season commencing. However, the greatest and most satisfying milestone in Season 2019 has been our onfield success. Our focus and emphasis on development and participation has been vindicated with 4 teams making Grand Finals. Our U10 Team started by winning the Lightning Premiership. This was followed by our U11 and U13 Teams winning Premierships and our U12 Team being Runners Up. The importance of ensuring our coaches develop each player fairly and equally has certainly been very rewarding as evidenced by the success of our younger age groups. The importance of continuing to promote and adhere to our Development and Participation policy is very clear and will ensure the club’s ongoing success and prosperity. In concluding, I would sincerely like to thank all our players and volunteers including committee members, coaches, assistant coaches, runners, team managers, and trainers as well as all those who contributed to game day roles in Season 2019. Looking forward to season 2020 and “Go the Mighty Macleod Eagles” Domenic DiCesare Football & Coaching Department

AUSKICK REPORT 2019 has been another success! Well over 100 participants this year, with a spike in the number of girls in Auskick. More importantly, the kids are learning and developing at the same time as having heaps of fun! Our numbers are starting to come through our under-age teams and have given our club a great platform to build on, in the number of teams we now have. This augers well for the future of Macleod JFC, which in turn will trickle through to our Senior club. The Auskickers really enjoyed learning new skills and using them in games. With such a high number, it was great to have a lot of helpers. Also, with so many girls now at Auskick, looks like we’ll have another girls team next year, which means we could have three girls sides at the club, including under 10s! If we can maintain our numbers and level of commitment to the kids, and I’m sure we will, the club’s future looks great going forward. Congratulations to everyone involved and for unending help I receive, can’t thank you all enough. Bring on 2020 Tom Barca AusKick Coordinator
