Investigators Program is an annual seminar series designed to enhance the research knowledge and skills of aspiring investigators at The University of Alabama. The primary focus of the program is on National Institutes of Health (NIH) extramural funding mechanisms and opportunities, particularly career development and research (R-series) awards. Historically, the Junior Investigators' Program has provided an opportunity for talented young faculty engaged in research to learn about proposal development and revision, as well as award establishment, implementation, and management at The University of Alabama.

Research, Integration, Strategies, and Evaluation (RISE) for Boys and Men of Color

Inaugural convening Translating Knowledge into Action: Building a Research Community for Boys and Men of Color on April 1-2, 2016 Chicago, Illinois.

RISE for Boys and Men of Color is a $10 million field advancement effort that aims to better understand and strategically improve the lives, experiences, and outcomes of boys and men of color in the United States. RISE spans five fields and focuses on four populations.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

SW 300: Social Work in Sports (Interim Session 2018) This course offering was designed to provide content on the reciprocal relationships between athlete behavior and their social environments. It includes empirically based theories and knowledge on the interactions between and within the athlete population, their families, their communities, athletic teams, athletic organizations, institutions overseeing athletics, and a global audience of sports enthusiasts. Knowledge of biological, psychological, sociological, cultural, and spiritual development across an athlete’s life span is included.

SW 351/355: Oppression and Social Injustice (online) (Summer 2018) This course, which examines issues related to the oppression of people on the basis of their gender, ethnicity, race, culture, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, age, religion, and national origin was modified for online education. While it continues to introduce the student to a range of issues related to oppression and social and economic injustice, it utilizes several forms of media-based instruction to engage students
