Luminus welcomed special guests to the official opening of the Grand Apartments in Ramsey.Greeting over 20 high profile representatives from Huntingdonshire District Council, Ramsey Town Council, Cambridgeshire County Council and Library Services, Luminus Group Chief Executive, Chan Abraham explained how the company had worked hard in partnership with others to produce a high quality development, incorporating a library learning centre, a range of services for children and young people, a community information centre, public toilets and some much needed high quality housing.

Jeff Dutton, Chairman of Huntingdonshire District Council said,

“This development is a tribute to the perseverance of Luminus who have kept faith with their original vision for a quality housing and community facility development here.

I remember the days of the old Ramsey Grand cinema which sadly had become a loss-making business. At that time the building could have been bought by a nightclub or some such. The impact on Ramsey would have been disastrous. We have recently witnessed scenes across our country showing “Broken Britain”. If Luminus had not stepped in at their own cost the

people of Ramsey might have had serious problems on their doorstep.

As councillors representing our constituents across the district, we are deeply grateful for the commitment shown by Luminus to help build safe neighbourhoods and healthy communities. My wife and I have attended the Luminus residents conferences and have been greatly impressed by the motivation they have inspired in local people to be part of what Luminus has called The Road to Renewal.

Luminus employees are rooting for an 11-year old boy from Peterborough who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour and have raised over £2000 to help him achieve some of his dreams, including a visit to see the sights of London, go to Italy and to have a Nintendo 3DS computer system.

When Luminus Group Chief Executive, Chan Abraham, learned that Liam Pridmore, the nephew of staff member, had a brain tumour, he invited all Luminus employees to help raise money for the youngster to realise his dreams. Mr Abraham promised to personally match his staff’s donations pound for pound.

“...it is wonderful to see the Luminus family respond with such warmth and enthusiasm”Luminus employees rose to the challenge without hesitation. They donated money, held a cake sale and raffle, raising £1000 towards helping Liam. Mr Abraham donated an additional £1000 and presented £2000 to Liam at the Luminus Conference as well as a brand new Nintendo 3DS game.

Liam said that he really enjoyed being at Luminus, adding that his proudest moment was not receiving the Nintendo 3DS, but sitting in Mr Abraham’s office chair and being Group Chief Executive for 10 minutes!

It is a prime example of our 2020 Vision: The Road to Renewal which is about living for others and not for ourselves. Liam and his family are in our thoughts and prayers and we are standing with them as they progress with his treatment.”

Luminus, the region’s premier housing provider, has given a boost to Browns Square, St Neots with a £100,000 makeover of the public space that residents see and use every day.

Luminus bought Browns Square in March 2000 along with nearly 7,000 homes from the local authority to give residents a better future.

Since then Luminus, led by Group Chief Executive Chan Abraham, has consistently led the way with outstanding customer approval ratings and holds No.1 position on The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For in leadership, wellbeing, work-life balance, most helpful colleagues and being run on strong moral principles.

Now Luminus has given the area, originally built in 1962, a new lease of life that will benefit the residents of the 16 individual apartments. The aim of the redevelopment is to enhance the area by redeveloping the existing garage blocks into twenty new parking bays, installing a new security gated entrance with intercom systems to each home and planting trees and shrubbery, creating a wonderful green space. Luminus provided a new bin area within the secured section of the Square, with a lock access gate for bin collection. Secured access prevents any fly tipping.

A New Beginning for Browns Square

For one day only, on Friday 7 October 2011 Luminus employees swapped their usual work clothes for jeans to raise money for the charity Jeans for Genes.

By each of the office employees donating at least £2 for the privilege of wearing denim to work, Luminus was able to raise £105 for the charity. Jeans for Genes aims to change the world for children and families affected by genetic disorders by funding research into the causes and cures of these conditions.
