JANUARY 2011 - ISSUE 20

In celebration of ten successful years of Luminus changing the world where we are, Luminus employees, residents and non-executives enjoyed a day of training on a tour of local development and community sites.

The men of Luminus, the UK number one for leadership, employee work-life balance and being founded on strong moral principles, have raised over £500 by growing and grooming moustaches for the Movember campaign. The money was raised through sponsorship and a raffle.

Luminus ladies (Mo Sistas) also joined in the fun, sporting fake moustaches to support their colleagues.

Each Movember, men are challenged to start the month clean-shaven and grow a moustache. The moustache becomes the hairy ribbon for men’s health and the guys growing them become a walking billboard for 30 days. The growth of a new moustache sparks hundreds of conversations about the seemingly taboo topics of men’s health and prostate cancer.

Group Chief Executive, Chan Abraham said,

“In 2010, our year of Renewing Hope and Inspiration, Luminus employees have embraced the idea of giving something back. The Movember campaign is changing the face of men’s health and are allies in the Luminus mission to change the world for the better where we are.”

Luminus, who recently won 2nd place in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For and three stars “extraordinary” Best Company Accreditation had over 20 employees take part in the campaign .

Anyone wanting to donate to the Luminus Movember Team can log on to www.movember.org.uk, click on Donate and search for Luminus.

Luminus employees have embraced the 2010 Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Appeal and generously donated 39 beautifully wrapped boxes filled with presents for disadvantaged children this Christmas.

The shoeboxes will be distributed in Swaziland, where forty per cent of the population is under 15 and seventy per cent of the population live below the poverty line.

The sweets, colouring books, hats, scarves, gloves, toys and toiletries will be distributed

to children aged 2 to 14 and will bring joy and remind children in need that they have not been forgotten this Christmas.

Luminus Group Chief Executive, Chan Abraham said,

“At Luminus we are committed to giving something back and once again our employees have gone the extra mile. Christmas is a very special time and in 2010, our Year of Renewing Hope And Inspiration, it is fantastic that Luminus has been able to light up the lives of children in some of the poorest parts of the world. I am delighted that Luminus employees have seized the opportunity to be involved with something as kind-hearted as this at Christmas.”

The shoeboxes will be delivered by Operation Christmas Child, run by Samaritan’s Purse. The charity successfully reaches thousands of children around the world at Christmas and provides aid throughout the year in response

to humanitarian disasters.

Giving Something Back

When children returned to Eynesbury C of E Primary School after the summer break, they discovered a new member of the school community waiting for them on the playing field – a giant!

Luminus and HDC funded the project through Voice Your Choice scheme and local residents elected to give the school £4,600 towards a sculpture celebrating the ‘Eynesbury Giant’. Eynesbury C of E School were one of thirty community projects to receive a share of £70,000 during Voice Your Choice, a scheme designed to support groups who tackle issues such as employment, education, skills and training, reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, improving transport and mobility, enhancing the environment and community empowerment.
