Task 8: Write an evaluation of your project. Use your blog posts to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your design process. Try to establish whether or not your finished product has achieved the aim of the project. Take into consideration anything said by interested parties. P4 comment on own work with some appropriate use of subject terminology. [RL] M4 explain own work with reference to detailed illustrative examples and with generally correct use of subject terminology. D4 critically evaluate own work in the context of professional practice consistently using subject terminology correctly. Effectiveness Did you meet the aim of the brief – did you understand it clearly from the start? I feel that my outcome for the project did meet the various specified aims of the brief. This is because from the start I checked the brief a lot to make sure that my work was correct and effective compared to the requests from the brief. Two things that the brief specified for the outcome to include were for the image to capture the targets eye and resonate with them. I feel that my images did this appropriately because I made my images with some humour and aimed them specifically towards the eye of the target age range. Did you use the correct methods and techniques? As far as software goes I used mainly the correct methods to create my images, first of all I took my own images using a camera then I used Photoshop to digitally manipulate some of the necessary images. I then brought my images into illustrator to finish them off and merge them with the Lucozade label template other than that I created images that I came up with and thought would fit the brief. Were you skilful? I used a lot of software during this project and mixed effects and manipulated images with things I haven’t used much of before so at first I had to practice with the features for a while until I was confident that I could use them correctly to create the plan I had in my mind. Were you professional? I think that during the project I demonstrated the ability to be able to perform image manipulation and idea creating tasks quite well as it is something I have never done before and I produced images to a fairly professional quality. Were you able to show that you could solve problems? During working on the project I did encounter several problems such as not knowing how to create certain effects on Photoshop such as glow which I overcame by either practicing using everything or looking it up on the internet. Another problem I solved was; after I had planned my ideas I noticed that some of them were going to be almost impossible to create so I had to change the ideas slightly and explore new creating methods. What areas are there for improvement? The main problem I have with my three outcomes is that, during the project I found some images easier to create and design so I feel I put more effort some than others and I feel that this is noticeable in the final product. If I could improve it further I would probably use some better effects that what I did use on some designs. Sources of Information Was your research effective? EffectivenessDid you meet the aim of the brief – did you understand it clearly from the start?I feel that my outcome for the project did meet the various specified aims of the brief. This is because from the start I checked the brief a lot to make sure that my work was correct and effective compared to the requests from the brief. Two things that the brief specified for the outcome to include were for the image to capture the targets eye and resonate with them. If I could improve it further I would probably use some better effects that what I did use on some designs. Sources of InformationWas your research effective? This product contained a very large research element involving 3 different research tasks into the three organisations, Lucozade and digitally manipulated photography. However all of this was extremely helpful when it came to the ideas tasks and creating my images.Did you ask for others’ opinions?Once I had generated my ideas and started my project, I received feedback from my classmates and teacher as to what they thought of my proposal, I took their opinions into consideration and continued my project with that in mind. Production ProcessHow effective were the following stages?ResearchI feel that I did a suitable amount of research that proved to be very helpful to my project and certainly helped me not only understand the project better but got my ideas flowing when I started planning. PlanningMy planning for this project was okay but my final ideas came to me quite quickly so I never actually got that much physical planning and ideas generation evidence completed. The method of planning was quite good; it worked well to generate ideas and helped me sort out good ideas from ideas that didn’t fit the brief so well. PreparationI think that the preparation I did involving the practicing effects on Photoshop and Illustrator was very useful by helping my actual

production go quickly and easily without me making lots of mistakes and possibly ruining the final outcome by not understanding the effects and how to make my ideas look how I want them instead of changing my idea every time I couldn’t complete the manipulation.ProductionThe actual main production stage for me was simple, I already had my ideas roughly planned out but I basically just started creating them and allowed the changes to affect my idea and I Just created them as I went along. Time managementTime management has been in the past, and still is something that I struggle with but in some aspects of this project I feel that I managed my time correctly. I spent more time planning and researching after realising that the production would take me less time, however I still allowed some time in case something went wrong. Although I did still end up in a rush to complete some tasks that I had missed out and encountered problems with. Technical competenciesI think that I learnt a lot about using photo manipulation software but in order to complete this project I felt that I was quite effective at using the various software on my own.Creative abilityMy final outcome is, I believe, effective and I think the designs are quite creative, some more than others but together I feel pleased with my outcome and think it does show creative ability and flare. Finished ProductHow did your artwork compare with your original intentions?Overall I think that compared to my initial ideas for the project my outcome is just as good, if not better, simpler and more appropriate for a Lucozade label.Does it work for the intended audience? The idea is very well suited to the intended audience because it hits them in a serious way but catches the eye by bringing a bit of humour that is aimed specifically at that age range. Are you pleased with the way it looks, the style you’ve created?I think that the way it looks and the techniques I used to make it look that way work very well and I am happy I could use complicated effects to create professional looking images of a high standard that all match to a similar style. Is it ready for print? My Images are now completed and ready for print as I believe the 3 images are similar, effective styles that fit the brief.
