WHY CHOOSE LATROBE? It is very convenient - located right in the heart of Sydney. I’ve met so many different people from all over the world, so many different cultures. This has given me a different perspective on life. As for the lecturers, they are very helpful and surprisingly friendly. They use real life examples when teaching to help you understand concepts easier.

If you are planning to come and study in Australia, I would say just do it! It’s been a real life-changing experience for me and will be for you, too. LaTrobe University Sydney Campus provides a great environment for studying.

By choosing LaTrobe, you’re choosing to get real-world experience, gain a global perspective and study alongside people who are pushing the boundaries.

BE THE DIFFERENCEWhen you graduate with a LaTrobe degree, you’ll join more than 180000 others who have gone on to transform lives, professions and communities. Among them are CEOs of some of our most prominent organisations, parliamentarians, human rights activists, medical researchers and Olympians.

They’re also nurses, teachers, journalists, engineers, artists and lawyers who make a difference to the world we live in. Their stories are remarkable and we’d like to share them with you.

Watch them at: latrobe.edu.au/be-the-difference

YOUR CAREER IS OUR JOB We’ve made Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Global Citizenship and Sustainability Thinking central to all of our undergraduate courses to make sure you graduate prepared for today’s workplace. We call these three vital areas of learning the LaTrobe Essentials.

Find out how our Essentials will prepare you for success: latrobe.edu.au/essentials

We also encourage you to participate in our internship program to compliment your studies. This will ensure you graduate with industry experience and a network of professional contacts.

CREATE KNOWLEDGE By studying with us, you’ll be part of a community that’s contributing to new knowledge. We are among the top ten research universities in Australia and 82 per cent of our research areas have been assessed to be at above, or well above world class (2015 Excellence in Research for Australia National Report).

Our researchers at the LaTrobe Institute for Molecular Science are looking for new ways to fight disease, while at AgriBio we’re tackling climate change, drought and other threats to Australia’s agriculture. At the LaTrobe Rural Health School, we’re improving health and wellbeing in rural and regional communities.

MAKE THE WORLD YOUR CAMPUS To solve global problems, you’ll need a global perspective, so we encourage you to take part in our overseas programs as part of your studies. You could study law in Shanghai, nanotechnology in Tokyo, archaeology in Mexico or urban planning

in Sri Lanka. Recently, we gave travel grants and scholarships to more than 850 LaTrobe students to study with partners like Michigan State University and the University of Essex.

Of course you don’t have to travel to be a global citizen – we also bring the world to you. More than 8000 international students study with us, making our campuses some of the most diverse in Australia.

YOU MATTER From day one, you’ll have access to a support network of people who will help you get the most out of university. Our mentors and orientation buddies will help you develop your study skills, including advice on assignment and thesis writing. Our Student Counselling Service and resident psychologist offer individual and small group counselling to support you when you need it, and our Internship Office runs workshops and events to help you start your career.

We’ll help you make a smooth transition to university life, support you throughout your studies, prepare you for work, and help you find the job you want.

There’s a lot more to LaTrobe than classes. Here are just a few examples of what you can do.

STUDY ABOARD Travel and get credit towards your LaTrobe degree with a semester or year at an overseas university. You will only pay your normal tuition fees to LaTrobe, and there are a range of scholarships and grants to support you. Student exchange is open to domestic and international students.

We have more than 150 partner universities in over 40 countries offering a wide range of programs and nearly all offer courses in English.

Find out more: latrobe.edu.au/students/exchange

JOIN THE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL Have your say on how to improve the Sydney Campus and add to your resume at the same time by being a member of the Student Representative Council. The group consists of volunteer students who act as a consultation point between Sydney Campus students and staff to explore possible ways of enhancing the student experience.

You will develop leadership skills and expand your LaTrobe community network while making the Sydney Campus a better place to study.

ORIENTATION Orientation is the official start to your university life. Experience your LaTrobe community first-hand, meet new friends in your course, explore your campus and learn everything you need to hit the ground running!

ORIENTATION BUDDY PROGRAM Orientation Buddies are second, third and fourth-year students who help new students settle into university life. On your first day of Orientation you’ll meet your allocated Buddy, who will take you on a campus tour, help you find your way around, answer questions, and help you get to know other students in your course.

GET JOB READYTake advantage of an internship in a corporate environment, with a focus on developing skills relevant to your chosen career. By participating in an internship related to your studies, specialisation or area of interest you can get job ready and begin to populate your resume with relevant work experience.

The internship usually lasts 12 weeks and enables you to transfer knowledge and theories from your university course into the workplace. The program will also increase your chance of full-time employment within your chosen career through your growing professional network and the references you gather.

I heard that this campus had a friendly environment and friendly staff. It’s true – best staff ever! My foundation program lecturers were very supportive and easy to ask for help with exams and assessments. My diploma is ‘uni life’ so the teaching is different but you still get all the help you need. My English has also improved and I’m able to communicate better with other students. Eventually, I want to study a master’s program at LaTrobe!

I liked the look of LaTrobe University because it was an established university with a large student population. Then my cousins recommended LaTrobe University Sydney Campus, so I decided to study in Sydney. There are really good lecturers here and because of the small number of students in the class, there’s always the opportunity to get help with assessments or anything you have trouble with.

Estimate how much money you’ll have each week from your job, parents, Centrelink and/or scholarship and how much you’ll spend–include everything! Then work out how much cash you’ll need each week for day-to-day expenses, and only ever withdraw this amount. Get more tips on our website: latrobe.edu.au/students/new-students/ready4uni
