August 2009 marked my first anni-versary as a volunteer in the clear-inghouse. I first heard of Love in the Name of Christ from my pastor, Dean DeVries, of First Communi-ty Church. His passion, en-thusiasm, and commitment to help bring Love INC to Boone County made me ea-ger to sign up to help.

I first trained to answer incoming client phone calls and to make follow up calls. But I found my niche when I began writ-ing exit notes. Exit notes are sent to clients when every step has been tak-en to fulfill a plan set forth to match resources with the client’s specific need.

I study each file and prayerfully consider every word that I write. I include words of encouragement to let our clients know that we do care about them, that they are precious

and dearly loved by their Heavenly Father, and that it is important to find a place to worship and receive the love and support of God’s people. I include a scripture that I have very carefully chosen especially for them and their situation.

I count myself fortunate to be able to volunteer for Love INC. I feel a special bond with each and every client to whom I write. I receive so much more in getting to know these dear people, than I could ever give back. I hope that the love I have for each

one comes through in my communi-cation with them.

Note from the clearinghouse: In ad-dition to volunteering for Love in the Name of Christ, Deb is the pre-school director, VBS teacher, and pre-school Sun-day School teacher at First Community Church. She has one grown son, Jason, who resides in Nashville, Tennessee. Thank you, Deb, for the many hours you volunteer for Love in the Name of Christ.
