Congratulations to all our students for their efforts in NAPLAN. This online assessment has received positive feedback from all Year 3 to 6 students at Hernani. Ellen participated in the initial trial in 2017 and stated “That it was far better than the paper based test”. This feedback has been consistent with our student comments during the 2018 NAPLAN assessment. CROSS COUNTRY AT BALD BLAIR PUBLIC SCHOOL Congratulations to all students for their wonderful behaviour, sportsmanship and excellent manners at the Small Schools Cross Country held at Bald Blair Public School on Friday 18 th May. Our amazing athletes once again prooved what talent our small school has coming a very close 2 nd place behind the much larger local school Bald Blair. Individual place getters on the day were: Beau Welsh 1 st place 8 & 9 year boys – a commanding lead from early on, a great determined run Beau! Beau set a blistering pace! Patrick McKellar 4 th place 8 & 9 year boys (who ran the two challenging laps in his socks after losing his shoes in the fast paced start!) Tough run on rough ground Patty! Patty zoomed overtaking from 5 th place to come 4 th (home in socks) Chad Welsh 2 nd place 11 year boys. Chad battled lap by lap with his rival from Chandler PS, showing great sportsmanship on the day shook hands with Chad and congratulated him on a great run. A long distance runner of the future- well done Chad!

Madeline Marsden 1st place 11 year girls- a wonderful display of local schools supporting each other as Maddi and Orli (from Dundurrabin) paced each other around a long, demanding course. With Maddi saving her best until the very last to place ahead of Orli.

This lead was a battle as neither girl was willing to let the other get away…… until the very end and Maddi powered

home!

Ellen Marsden placing a commendable 3rd in the 12 & 13 year girls. Ellen had some tough competition from the Bald Blair girls, who had obviously trained on the course.

Ellen striving to get ahead up heartbreak hill… a tough

climb! Hernani’s students participated with their best effort, determination and certainly made parents, teachers and their peers feel very proud of their sportsmanship on the day.

Thank you to parents for transporting to this event and for their support on the day. Kids love having their parents support them at sporting events! Thankyou parents

Great job Hernani STARS! We hope you enjoy reading our Kindergarten student recounts from the day:- We had to run a long way up a hill and down a hill. I ran really fast and I got puffed.

It was fun.

Gracie Kinder

Gracie a runner to watch in the future made a great finish
