Hernani Public School News – Week 3 Term 3, 2016

Our first venue was NERAM, so that our Year 1 student Leah Roworth could see her artwork on display in the ‘Let’s Hang It’ exhibition.

A very proud mum with artist Leah

There were 654 student artworks entered in this competition and only 64 finalists. Leah’s artwork was selected to be in the exhibition (1 of 64 artworks).

Tania welcomed us to NERAM and explained how special it

was for Leah to have her artwork chosen as a finalist Whilst at NERAM students looked at the artworks in the ‘Let’s Hang It’ exhibition and Leah was presented with a certificate from NERAM. Leah’s picture of the sun on hessian will be going to the University of New England (U.N.E) to hang on their walls for everyone to see.

Discussing artistic techniques and special features with

Tania Other exhibits students from Hernani saw included; ‘Landscapes’ and ‘Operation Preservation’. We discovered that it costs quite a lot of money to preserve artworks. A highlight for all was being able to see Leah’s artwork and choosing our own favourite artworks. After lunch we had a great afternoon at the Armidale Gymnastic’s Centre, for our first Sporting Schools gymnastics session for Term 3. Ebor Public School’s students joined us for gymnastics. It was fun returning to the gym and learning about gymnastics with Mr O’Hara. Mr O is cool!

Gymnastics-warm ups with Mr O Hara are great fun too!

Mr O’Hara ensuring all students learn correct techniques We were excited to see the new climbing wall and to climb on this. It is called ‘bouldering’.

Leah challenging herself on the wall!

Next week we are going to use harnesses to climb right to the top!. We even get to see Mrs Winkel climb to the top (if she can, as Mrs Winkel is scared of heights!).

Go Chad! Mr O said we will get to use the special tissues and the bars. Our excursion was FUN! By K-6 Students
