Pastoral Care Litany

And Jesus said, ‘Take my yoke upon you. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

(Baxter) I have been yoked to Christ and this congregation in the ministry of pastoral care. While every burden is truly a burden, I have not born the burdens of this congregation alone. I have been yoked to Christ, my fellow ministers, friends and this congregation. We have journeyed and grown together.

We are grateful for your ministry to us, among us and with us.

(Kendra) I am being yoked to Christ and this congregation in the ministry of pastoral care. I will not do this work alone, but I will depend on the power and support of Christ, his ministers and his people. We will journey and grow together.

We receive you as our minister. We will respect and honor your ministry to us, among us and with us.

(Baxter) Take Christ’s yoke upon you. Learn of him, for he is gentle and humble in heart. And may you find rest for your soul in the work of this ministry. May the yoke be easy, and may the burdens be light.

To the glory of God and to the health of Christ’s church. Amen.

Words of Worship

Opening Sentences Kendra Plating

Here we are, O God. We are all your children.

We gather for this time of worship, each having our own needs, our own concerns, our own hopes and fears.

We gently spread our lives before you, waiting for your Spirit to invade our spirits, so that we shall be prepared for the living of these days.

It is enough to be ourselves utterly before you, O God, and to wait for the movement of your Spirit within us.

We thank you, O God, that you have not left us alone to the devices of our own minds and hearts; but within us, among us, and all about us, is your Loving Presence.

For your grace, this day and every day, we give you the thanks of our hearts. (inspired by prayers of Howard Thurman)

Introit “Psalm 86” Carl J. Nygard Jr.

Prayer for Worship

O God whose Spirit moves within us and among us, we gather to worship you and to open ourselves to your Holy Presence. We look back on our lives and recall moments when we were surprised and uplifted by a sense of your Presence; moments when we experienced a peace that was beyond our understanding. For these glimpses of grace, and for all the ways we have been renewed by your Spirit, we give you thanks. Help us, O God, to respond to your love for us in our caring for others and by being the beloved community you call us to be. Amen.
