1. INTRODUCTION

Look and Place System, applied to Pigeon Holes Bag Rack, is designed for a dual scope:

- To provide a flyer sort System guided and controlle d for the operator, complete of the integration With DHL’s Microwand Processing System

Look and Place System is applied to Pigeon Holes Bag Rack, to support and improve the Outbound Flyer Sort System.

- To use the data collected during the sorting proces s bag for positive containerisation(CCNT)

2.1 Q.ty 4 PIGEON HOLES METAL FRAME

• 2 x 18 Slots capacity (6 rows by 3 columns each)

• 2 x 12 Slots capacity (6 rows by 2 columns each)

• Frontal frame with electronic light and sensors for each slots

• Special cages are used to hold bags inside the slots

• The four units, mounted on wheels with brake, are positioned at operator’s sides

The System is consisting of:


2.2 METAL COMPUTER RACK

• Central rack containing :

• L&P computer

• Unix terminal (DHL)

• Zebra printer label (DHL)

• Scale display (DHL)

• The unit is positioned in front of the operator


2.3 COMPUTERIZED CONTROL UNIT


• Personal Computer

• SIPILINK concentrator

• Cordless Barcode reader

• Interface unit to DHL Unix terminal

3. MAIN CHARACTERISTICS


• Flyer data, required to activate L&P sort process, collected by capture from printing buffer of DHL network label. Drivers for DATAMAX, MONARCH and ZEBRA printers are available (other drivers or direct link to HOST could be developed)

• Set up of different sort configuration

• Unique identifier for single bag (HUID) for DHL CCNT procedure. The link of HUID to hole is made by means of a cordless barcode reader

• Set up of different sort criteria: bag number, destination, etc..

• Local database MS ACCESS

• Single hole configuration with its capacity


• Easy maintenance due to diagnostics and system modular structure

• Sort capacity : more than 600 flyer/ hour

• Export file for DHL statistics

• Reporting related to single hole contents, detailed for each flyer

• Exceptions management: reprint of a label, flyer data modification, etc…

• Automatic detection and signalling of bag or hole full

• Light signalling in case of missort

• Sensors to control if the flyer is sorted to the correct hole

• Light signalling on hole destination of processed flyer to guide the operator

4. WORKING OPERATION


• Set up of sort configuration

• Set up of HUID procedure

• Reweigh of flyers with the standard MWP procedure

• Network label emission start L&P process

• Light switch on of the hole where the operator will insert the flyer

• Control of correct operation with light switch off

• Missort signalling until the operator will sort properly the flyer

• HUID data transmission to CCNT procedure
