A remarkable number of our fantastic staff and volunteers were honoured in this year’s long service, graduation and celebration
ceremony held at Imperial War Museum Duxford, Cambridgeshire, yesterday (6th October).
Hundreds of people from the region’s six counties got together to celebrate remarkable careers and outstanding contributions, which have a very real impact on patient care. Special guests also included patients who had survived life-threatening incidents, the Vice Lord
Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire Jane Lewin-Smith, and emergency service and NHS colleagues.
CEO Robert Morton opened by saying that “together we strive for excellence in patient care and clinical practice, professionalism in
customer service”, adding: “Irrespective of the category of celebration, they should be equally proud of themselves as we all are of them.”
This commemorative write-up highlights just those who attended the ceremony, and we’d like to thank all of you that travelled from far and wide for the celebrations. But there are many more award recipients
who couldn’t join us last night, so we’d also like to express a thank you, and our congratulations, to all of you.

“We are extremely proud of you and what you do for
your communities every day. I thank you sincerely for
everything you do, despite the challenges
we face.”
Robert MortonChief Executive
The Lynne Storrie AwardMatthew Green
Lynne Storrie was training to become an ambulance technician in February 2001 when she was tragically killed driving home from our Bedford training centre. Lynne remains in the hearts of all of us at the ambulance service, and annually we present the Lynne Storrie award to a student in training who has proved themselves to be exceptional.
Student Paramedic Matt has remained continually dedicated to his education and training despite significant personal loss and injury; in his first year with us, Matt was involved in a horrific accident whilst on duty, sustaining life-threatening injuries. But,
Matt was determined to continue his ambition of becoming a paramedic, and the Trust was thrilled to see him return after his recovery.
Chief Executive Commendations
Awarded for their hard work and dedication in implementing and delivering the new CAD system, across all three of our 999
emergency control rooms.
Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Implementation Team
The team set up a quick but rigorous plan to immediately check all our ambulances when
there was a potential major mechanical issue with our emergency fleet.
The Workshop Team
Amber is the daughter of a patient who collapsed and went into cardiac arrest in June
this year. Putting aside her own emotions, Amber performed exceptional CPR that, according to the attending crew, “saved
her dad’s life”. Thankfully Amber’s dad has recovered well and was able to watch her
collect her commendation.
Amber Glaysher
Student paramedic Lucy Hammond was off-duty when she ran into the sea to rescue someone who was in cardiac arrest. Soon joined by the also off-duty Dave Killingback and partner Emily Harper, a nursing sister, and ambulance crews, lifeboat teams, and the East Anglian Air
Ambulance team of Dr Danny Sharpe and Gary Spitzer, the group went above and beyond the call of duty to save the patient’s life.
Cromer sea rescueChris, who responds with the HART team, and wife Abby who works for the London
Ambulance Service, were off-duty when they came across a devastating road traffic collision
in Huntingdon. The duo went above the call of duty to provide an immediate high level of
care to the patient.
Chris and Abby Miller
Quiet, friendly and motivated, Dean has helped the mental health agenda move
forward at EEAST like we’ve never seen before. His frank and open discussions on his own
post-traumatic stress disorder earlier this year opened up conversations between colleagues, and also helped it get to the national agenda.
Dean Stuart
Selfless crew Ruby and Tom became heroes after a Cambridge hotel caught fire; the duo
helped to evacuate more than 40 people from the burning building before it collapsed.
Ruby Wood & Tom Day
