soon, a baby, after Anna Giles andEdWellhamwere introducedthrough amatch making agency.

The only initial stumbling blockwas the fact that some 500kmseparated the pair with Ed living inWestWyalong, in central westernNSW, and Anna based in Sydneyseastern suburbs. I thought she

quite likedme, but thought becauseof the distance she might not bekeen, says Ed.In the end, romance championed

and distance was not too much of anissue, especially with Anna oftenseconded to different hospitals some closer to Ed.

After Ed asked Anna to marryhim in the BlueMountains, thecouple enjoyed an intimate weddingwith 80 of their family and friends inSydney last November.

So, it seems, Ed passed the testswith flying colours.

Hes kind to kids and animalsand demonstrated hes a very gentle

person, says Anna. Hescomfortable and secure in himself I really admire that in him.

After Annas year of maternityleave is over, Ed has agreed to take ayear off and be the main carer fortheir child.

Thatll help a lot, says Anna,who has another year and a half togo before she is a fully trainedsurgeon.

Ed, who works as a businessimprovement consultant, says hesexcited about the baby and thinksAnna will make a great mum.

Its life-changing to have a baby,she might change her mind and

want to be a mum; Ill fit aroundher, he says. Already a father to aneight-year old boy from a previousrelationship, Ed says he loveschildren and is close to his son,despite the fact that he lives in theUK. I adore my son, he says.Were trying to catch up everyyear. This year it might be a bittricky with the baby, but hes veryexcited about getting a new brotheror sister.

With four sisters, Ed adds that hehas lots of nieces and nephews andspends a lot of time with them.

Ive always loved animals,he adds jokingly.
