Little Phoenix The Newsletter of Yarm Pre-Prep Number 180 16th September 2016 Mrs Speight’s message ... Terrific trips and awesome activities have been discussed throughout the Pre-Prep this week. As the result of a huge range to choose from, there is clearly something to suit all tastes. We also have Year 2 Pre-Prep recorders during Tuesday afternoon break with Mr Smith. All year groups enjoyed a trip out this week. Reception had a fabulous walk to Waterstones in Yarm, Year 1 stepped back in time at Beamish and Year 2 loved the Railway Museum at York. Nursery enjoyed being outside, making the most of the fine weather! Children from Nursery, Reception and Year 1 were entertained by the Booster Cushion Theatre, with their production of Old Macdonald and 3 Little Pigs. Roald Dahl Day saw many characters from the stories, I particularly liked Mrs Twit and Miss Trunchbull! It seems appropriate to comment on the engaging, fun learning that happens all the time at Yarm School. There is never a dull moment, ensuring our children have such a meaningful and relevant curriculum. Tomorrow sees the annual Stokesley Show, please do come and see us and spread the word to families and friends. Word of mouth is by far the best recommendation, we love seeing you at the stand and we look forward to showing your friends and family our school at Open Morning the following Saturday on the 24th September. Have a wonderful weekend, I'm really looking forward to the choral workshop. As I said earlier, there is something for all at Yarm School. Number 180 16th September 2016

Mrs Speight’s message ...

Terrific trips and awesome activities have been discussed throughout the Pre-Prep this week. As the result of a

huge range to choose from, there is clearly something to suit all tastes. We also have Year 2 Pre-Prep recorders

during Tuesday afternoon break with Mr Smith.

All year groups enjoyed a trip out this week. Reception had a fabulous walk to Waterstones in Yarm, Year 1

stepped back in time at Beamish and Year 2 loved the Railway Museum at York. Nursery enjoyed being outside,

making the most of the fine weather! Children from Nursery, Reception and Year 1 were entertained by the

Booster Cushion Theatre, with their production of Old Macdonald and 3 Little Pigs. Roald Dahl Day saw many

characters from the stories, I particularly liked Mrs Twit and Miss Trunchbull! It seems appropriate to comment

on the engaging, fun learning that happens all the time at Yarm School. There is never a dull moment, ensuring our

children have such a meaningful and relevant curriculum. Tomorrow sees the annual Stokesley Show, please do

come and see us and spread the word to families and friends. Word of mouth is by far the best recommendation,

we love seeing you at the stand and we look forward to showing your friends and family our school at Open

Morning the following Saturday on the 24th September.

Have a wonderful weekend, I'm really looking forward to the choral workshop. As I said earlier, there is

something for all at Yarm School.

Railway Museum

Year 2 had a wonderful day at the National Railway

Museum in York this week. We learnt all about

holidays in the Victorian era and looked at changing

fashions from the past. We were also lucky enough

to have a ride on the outdoor miniature railway and

got to sit on an actual Japanese Bullet Train!

Reception take a trip to the bookshop

When we saw a new bookshop had opened in town, we thought it was a perfect opportunity to inspire our emergent

readers with a love of books. So, on Wednesday, the Reception classes walked to Waterstones on the High

Street. We were very well behaved on the stroll down and were delighted to spend time browsing the book shelves.

The team in Waterstones then read us some recently published books, we chose some of these to buy for our classrooms. Thank you to the staff at Yarm Waterstones

for making us so welcome.

Back in Time at Beamish

Pre-Prep Monitors Every half term children in Year 2 have the chance

to become a Year 2 Monitor. This is a very important role, where the children get to look after our library in the Studio Hall, help other children at

lunch and break times and make lost property a thing of the past by reuniting all named uniform

with their owners! This half term’s Year 2 Monitors are Sofia, Lexie, Noah, Amelie, Hadi,

Luca, Janvi and Freddie.

Year 1 had lots of fun stepping back in

time to the Victorian days, during their

visit to Beamish on Wednesday.

We were invited to an old pit cottage to

learn about toys from the past.

We continued onto the Victorian school

to see how school life used to be,

before taking a tram ride to Beamish

town. A visit to the sweetie shop was a

lovely treat! What a great day, Year 1!
