THE ELKS’ TOOH - FEBRUARY 2010
EMBLEM CLUB NEWS
Enough of this snow and cold weather!!!!!!!!! Hopefully, spring will be just around the corner!!!!
President Diane Farmer, Luann Fro-schauer and Nina Mack attended the WIIM State meeting in Beardstown February 5th & 6th. Very informative workshops were given on “fund rais-ing” and “parliamentary proce-dure”. Food was good and great fel-lowship.
Community service reports should be done. If you haven’t turned them in, be sure and bring them to the meet-ing or contact one of the officers about them. It is just amazing what good works all our members do throughout the year.
We will, again, be going along with the Easter Bunny to the local nursing homes. Our donation to the nursing homes’ activity funds can help bring a little cheer to the residents.
The election of officers will be at the March meeting. Contact someone if you are interested in an office.
Our installation of officers will be April 10th at 7:00 P.M.
The local Hoop Shoot contest was held at Lincoln Community High School on January 9, 2010. We had 50 participants this year with 41 boys and 9 girls. The participants came from seven local schools in the community including Lincoln Jr. High, North-west, Washington-Monroe, West Lincoln- Broadwell, Carroll Catholic, Zion Lutheran and Chester East.
Below are listed the winners per their age group:
Boys 8-9 year olds
Cameron Nichols (Northwest)
Boys 10-11 year olds
Cole Klockenga (Carroll Catholic)
Boys 12-13 year olds
Grant Cooper (Lincoln Jr. High)
Girls 8-9 year olds
Emma Cameron (Carroll Catholic)
Girls 10-11 year olds
Hannah Cameron (Carroll Catholic)
Girls 12-13 year olds
Jordan Wood (West Lincoln-Broadwell)
Once again volunteers for this year did an AWESOME job: Mer-lin and Michelle Horath, Karol Lurtz, Kevin Kurtz, Cameron Kurtz, Joel Ritchart, Jeff and Christy Singleton, Jane Ryan, Rick and Deb Freed, Debbie Rogers, Karen Deany, George Lace-field, Mary Kelly and DiAnne Boyer. A Big Thanks for all that helped!
Kevin Kurtz, Chairman of the Hoop Shoot, went to 13 grade schools in Logan County handing out fliers this year.
Next year Kevin has an idea to make sure every child re-ceives information so there will be more children participat-ing. If you work in the school system and have an idea how to reach more children, do not hesitate to call Kevin 732-3284.

Both your Elk’s dues and your activity packages have been mailed. If you have not received by the receipt of this newsletter, please call the of-fice (217-732-3914) and we will re-send the information to you!

FROM CHEF RON
Where is the warmth? We could sure use some. The club will re-open Wednesday, March 3rd at 5p.m.. Thank you for your cooperation in closing for those two windy and snowy months. The new hours of operation will be:
Dining Room and Lounge:
Wednesday through Saturday 5p.m. to 10p.m.
19th Hole
Wednesday through Sunday 5p.m. to ??
Once the weather breaks and the carts and golf bags are prevalent at the club again, we will be
opening the 19th Hole 7 days a week to ser-vice all your beverage and food needs. I have created a new menu just for the 19th hole for fast service and affordability. Come out and see us at the club and enjoy some great food and great service.
Please remember to call your reservations in to the club for assured seating as we have had numerous calls about are opening. I would also like to let everyone know I am having our first cooking class of the year April 27th so mark your calendars as we will be learning some fun appetizers and I will give a fruit carving demon-stration. Also, Sunday May 9th for Mother’s Day brunch at the club reservations only.
THE ELKS ‘TOOTH - MARCH 2010
To Elks Club Members:
Since I will not be returning as Director of Golf this year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who helped me during my employment at the Elks. There are too many of you to name individually and I don’t want to risk leaving anyone out. Without the hard work of the ladies and men’s golf league members, the Emblem Club members, the golf committees, and the good people who volunteer, our tournaments and events would not be so successful. Your assistance made my job more enjoy-able and you will not be forgotten. This past summer, the State Elks Tournament and the Boys IHSA Sectional Tour-nament were a tremendous success due to those of you who worked so hard and volunteered. The compliments we received were outstanding.
A big thanks goes to Ray Actis, Ron Nailer, and all the other Elks employees. It was a pleasure working with you. Growing up on the course and then working here for the past 10 years in various jobs (during high school, col-lege, and to the present), I have seen a lot of improvements made to this course which have made it one of the finest in Central Illinois and one we should all be proud of.
Thanks also to all of you for the many phone calls, text messages, and words of encouragement in the past few weeks and hope to see you again.
FROM JT ASHLEY
