History
With a grant of $100,000, the Elks National Foundation was established in 1928 as the charitable arm of the Elks.

2011-12 Grants Include…
$4.6 million to Lodge communities through the Community Investments Program
$3.646 million in college scholarships $1.5 million to Elks Youth Programs $1.135 million to the Elks National
Veterans Service Commission $8.1 million in grants for state Elks
associations
College Scholarships
In 2011-12, the Foundation will award a total of $2.296 million in four-year scholarships to 500 national finalists.

Children and grandchildren of Elks.
Up to 250 four-year, $4,000 scholarships.
Based on ENF core values of Knowledge, Charity, Community and Integrity.
Legacy Awards
College Scholarships, cont.
College-age children of deceased or totally disabled Elks.
1-year grants, renewable up to 3 times.
Up to $4,000 per year.
Emergency Educational Grants
Youth Programs
National free-throw contest for kids 8-13.
More than 3 million participants each year.
Provides healthy extra-curricular activity.
Promotes family time. Instills integrity and good
sportsmanship in youth.
Elks National Hoop Shoot Free-Throw Program
Youth Programs, cont.
Educating students and parents about substance abuse through educational material.
Conferences, workshops and seminars.
Red Ribbon Week. Partnerships with
leading drug prevention organizations.
Drug Awareness Program
Veterans Service Elks have
pledged “so long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them.”
Veterans Service, cont.
The Veterans Service program provides care and comfort to the 25 million veterans in the United States.
They visit VA hospitals, provide wheelchair gloves through the leather program; reach out to homeless veterans; and establish an Army of Hope for families of soldiers overseas.
Local Philanthropy
The Foundation will distribute more than $8.1 million to state Elks associations this year.
These grants will help fund projects such as children’s hospitals, youth camps and safe havens, as well as state scholarships, Drug Awareness and Hoop Shoot programs.

The CIP allows Lodges to emerge as philanthropic leaders in their own communities.
$2,000 Gratitude Grants for Lodges who meet the GER’s per-capita goal, to use to address a local unmet need.
$2,000 Promise Grants for Lodges who sponsor programs that build character and competency of youth.
