WELCOME for yet a further occasion in this momentous 1959/60 season. On the day of the Dundalk match we said what proved to be a premature farewell as we did not expect to be playing the Top Four game aga inst Cork Celt ic here, To them also we extend the ha nd of welcome. By way of explanation of t he increased admission prices may we point out that the gates in the semi-final are pooled with the gate of t he Shels/ Rovers game a nd the game could have gone to Cork but for it being boosted here.
* * * It has been reported to the C lub that there has been discontent in the C ity because some gear was given to the newly formed E nnis C lub. T he gea r given to them was very o ld a nd could not be used in competition. T hey had appealed for any gear irrespective of con-
dition and were pleased to get the old st uff in order that they could ma ke a start.
* * * We wish to make public acknow-ledgm~n t of our gratitude for the many congratu latory telegrams, letters, cards, and verbal expressions of congratulat ion received by the C lu b on winning our first League C hampionship . These poured in from· a ll parts of the country and seemed to indicate that we have a great measure of support.
* * * The Ways and Means Committee a re running two dances in Mayon the 15t h at the Lakeside Ballroom, Killaloe, with the F lying Aces Showband from Drogheda , from 8 to 12, admiss ion 5/-, a nd on the 21 st- Sunday- a Victory Da nce at the Stella Ballroom with the Kevin f Woods Orchest ra, from 8.30 to I a.m. , admission 6/-.

THIS being the final item on our some of us are unab le to see when programme it seems fitting that we fi rst introduced. H FOR THE RECORD ,
This being by way of a Souvenir Programme we feel it fitting that we should include in it some statistics that will enable you to settle argu-ments that will arise during the years to come. You know the idea-some night in the Club a fellow says to you "that was the year Limerick won the League wasn't it- how many points did they score?" and you can say- casual ly like- it so happens that I have the souvenir programme here in my wallet and it gives the complete fina l league table fo r the year 1959/60.

We take the liberty of repeating a brief history qf the Limerick Club that was printed in the programme of Nov. 15th, J 953, the Sunday after the first major trophy win-the Shield 1953/54.
* * * Sixteen years have passed since
the "Babes "-Limerick- took the hefty plunge into top grade football. What a precious start they made : full of the promise of great things ! C lad in their cardinal red and white stripes and led by Derry-born player-coach, Jimmy McCann, the '37 team dimmed the Rovers' shining lights, including the two international stars of inm1ortal memory - the la te Jimmy Dunne and Paddy Moo re.
Success by a si ngle goal over the famous Shamrocks kindled the en thusiasm for the Limerick team and rocketed the club sansationa ll y into the soccer limelight. Players came and went, and committ ees changed, but Limerick kept going on.
Desp ite the club's luck less quest of the major prizes of Iri sh football , it had, nevertheless, the satisfaction and di stinction of seeing a number of Limerick boys gai ning Interna tional, Olympic, Inter-League and other representative honours. Many ex- Limerick players graced the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland foo tball scenes with uccess, and we are glad to reco rd. that in most spheres they continue to do so .
Limerick hit an adventurous and an adm irable note by encouraging local ta lent. T he a ll -loca l side ca me to pass eight yea rs ago . The ups and downs of the club are fami lia r to many. At last, the clu b. headed by Chairman Justice 0 Riain , Secretary Mick T ubridy, and TeamManager Willi e Keane, is trailing the conquero r's path. THE WON-
DERFUL VICTOR Y JN THIS SEASON 'S SHIELD COMPETITION HAS BROUGHT THE " BABES " OUT OF THE WOOD.
* * * By way of continuing where the
above history left off- your scribe has but fo ur years' associat ion with the Club, so wi ll confine ourselves to the major events during that period Of the names mentioned a bove, District Justice O'Riai.n is still a Director, and our rep resentative on the F.A.l. Council , of which he has the honour to be Vice-Chairman. Mr. McMahon mentioned on the face of the same programme, is still a Director and is the Club Representative to the League Management Committee. The career of Mr. Simmonds, who is a Director, was fully covered in a recent edition of the" Leader " , and we are proud to say he is at the game to-day. The Board was enl a rged about four years ago and it was found necessary to recrui t footba ll talent from Dublin and more recently Cork. Slow progress was made but the list of trophies at the head of the C lub notepaper has increased. and now totals eleven. A second st ring was formed and a Minor eleven also and these teams have added to the trophy li st in a big way. Tl'le year 1958/59 was a good one when the Seniors won Mun ter Cup and the Dublin City Cup and the Minors won the Minor Cup and League and the " Bees ·· won the Lawson Cup. This season the Sen iors were runners up in the Shield and League Champions, and to-d ay we go to wo rk on the Top Four Independent up. T he biggest event in Club hi story will be our entry into the Eu ropea n up and we hope that we wi ll be able to prove tha t the Babes SHOWN ABOVE AS COMrNG OUT OF Tl-1 E WOODS CAN NOW PROVE THAT THEY HAVE SETTLED DOWN lN THE TOWN.
