ROOSEVELT PUBLIC LIBRARY IMPROVED

Dr. Lambert C. Shell Director of Roosevelt Public Library

We successfully made it through the summer months with great weather, and educational programs and services for the entire Roosevelt community. The Summer Reading Club was well represented throughout the different departments of the library, but no-where more than Youth Services.

The Children’s Department went up in registration and books read! We had 213 registered children for our summer reading club; they read a total of 1003 books. We are so proud of our readers. Although reading was our main focus, we also offered a wide range of programs for the children to enjoy. This summer’s programs were a big hit especially the Physics Bus,

cooking classes, engineering programs, maker club,

and so much more! This summer

we also

partnered with Reason2Smile to promote-building a better world through learn-ing about and helping oth-ers; children learned all about Kenya

and how to make paper bracelets like they do there.

The Young Adult Department registered twice as many readers than last year which is a huge accomplishment. This year’s summer reading theme was Build A Better World. Many programs were offered surrounding this theme including Build A Better You through Cartooning, Dance, Cooking, Coding, Spheros, Mindstorm, Writing and more. Our attendance for these events was relatively consistent, and the relationship between the teens and the young adult librarian was solidified through our Reading = Gaming campaign.

As Roosevelt children and teens return to school, we prepare for colder days and the holiday season. We have reopened on Sundays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM to provide greater access

to the knowledge and assistance the community craves and the library provides.

Roosevelt Library is a gateway to resources and convenience. We will continue to implement innovative programs and services for the community. We will keep offering a wide variety of cutting edge features for our public to take advantage of. This includes our new state of the art recording studio, and our Animation Center, which will be opening in October 2017. We are also developing a Maker Space, which will include 3D printers, graphic computers, animation software and more.

The role of Roosevelt Library is to continue to create a welcoming environment for you and your family. Providing the highest level of customer service, quality programs, and a beautiful building is what we want for the community. Your input and feed-back have been very helpful in guiding the path of the library and moving it in the right direction. We hope you continue with this mission.

Come visit and see how Roosevelt Library continues to be elevated. I hope you will take advantage of the resources we have available here. Just remember Roosevelt Public Library has all you need.

See you soon.

Dr. Lambert C. Shell Sr.

Each year Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 - October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors come from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. We honor the influence and impact of Hispanics in all aspects of our society including politics, music, art, science, education and the economy. Amazingly, the holidays are upon us again. It feels as though this time of year comes so fast, turns our lives upside down and is over before we know it. Sometimes it’s hard to be fully present in the moment when we are overwhelmed and stressed about gift giving, tons of parties to attend, and juggling our families through it all. It helps to step back and take it all in. Slow down and enjoy the holidays. Giving is better than receiving… So come and visit us with your family, friends and neighbors. No matter your tastes, you’re sure to find something to inspire you. Just step inside our doors and let us transport you and do something fun at your local library, an oasis of books and knowledge for every member of our community.
